Twin 65/80w batten

I rescued 2 of these complete with T12 tubes from the dumpster at work. There was nothing wrong with them. They were removed to build an office in some warehouse space. Not sure of the brand of the batten. Thorn perhaps? They were new in 1983. One had Thorn tubes and the other German made Sylvania cool white 4300k. Kinda wish the colour temperatures had been different to cool white or better still, reflectors!

Hi Rapidstart,

That's a Thorn Popular Pack variant from the mid 1970's. These have the 'wishbone' sockets instead of the spring caps. Incidentally there is a version with black caps and a polished metal body. Not common to see 6 footers though!

Thanks Blake,

The warehouse was originally full of them. Over time several got damaged with a forklift and were replaced with twin 36w.

Come to think of it, reflector tubes probably would not work well in this as the light output part of the tube would be at an angle.

Good score, I've got some 8 foot versions in single 125w and twin 2x125w. I've never personally seen 6 footers in use but Will posted a pic of one in a Telstra exchange and James has a couple in Toowoomba.

Traffic signals & street lighting engineer. Please bring SOX/LPS back Downunder!!

I forgot to mention what I thought was a nice feature with these is that the two holes in the cover plate for the starters has a little cut-out arrow pointing towards the tube they start.

That's something I never noticed when I looked at the ones James had. Good idea.
