I'm assuming that's a rather used MV, judgding[sic] by its green-ness, or did they explicitly make them to have that color?

It was fairly greened out. But the camera makes it look very green due to the fact that a digital camera that ususes a noraml mosaic CCD has two green sensors, a red, and a blue. So since Mercury lamps have their primary output line in the green the camera thinks its more green than it really is.
