Five years later

Five years later

Not immediately comparable to this photo from five years ago due to different exposure settings, but still it is obvious how the lamp has faded further since.

And tonight, another four months later, I had to note that it is now really on its very last legs. It has started to cycle, going off after a minute, then remaining completely dark for a minute, then a very faint blueish-green glow appears, then after almost five minutes the arc restrikes – only to extinguish again after a minute etc. etc. And when on it is not brighter than a 60 watts incandescent lamp anymore.

I wonder if the farmers will care and, if so, what they will do. This typical security light is apparently switched on and off by a photocell, so its failure could remain unnoticed for months, especially now in the summer season.
