simulated gas mantles

3 x 3W LED candle lamps have been used here to simulate gas mantles in this reproduction fitting. The Photo switch is actually more interesting as it is a “half night” switch. I think these are quite rare, they were designed to operate dusk to dawn on the first cycle then extinguish at half time there after. If it is still dark 5 hours later it re-lights covering winter morning darkness.

Interesting set up for aesthetics, but if these had been gas mantles for real, I think the mantles would blow these out of the water in terms of brightness!

I must admit, I do like this, its a clever idea , these types of classic old gas lanterns are very popular in Cheshire, for people's gardens, but you always see them with boring CFL stick type lamps in! , but this looks so much better for that 'original' look! I sadly don't have one, but I'd definitely do this to one if I did
