Osram 18W SOX

Disappointing performance from this 18W SOX. It’s labelled OSRAM but I think it was made in Hamilton in 2002.It has been running for less that a year on inductive gear cycling twice per night. It still works but efficiency has been impaired by the darkening.

Odd, it doesn't really look like sodium has leaked into the outer glass.
More like the indium tin oxide layer was "cooked".

This is where Philips have let these slip, theres so many of these `Osram` brand made at Hamilton that are doing this.
Yes it is the IR layer and it was a big problem for GE too before they closed their Leicestershire plant.

Sad that the quality on SOX lamps also has slipped. Perhaps this is all a conspiracy to get people to scrap their old lights that are "always burning out" and convert to LED? For collectors like us, NOS lamps are the only way to go.

I don't remember seeing this often in early SOX lamps. Sometimes it would happen at end of life but not a year old.
