Reprographic Lamp

Reprographic Lamp

Click to view full size image

This is an eBay find and was sold as a mercury reprographic lamp.
It looks just a fraction larger than a 1kW mercury lamp arc tube but is apparently rated at 4kW. Shown here running up but limited by a 250W mercury ballast. It looks like it is more like a halide than a mercury lamp by the deposits on the tube wall. I need to look at it with a spectroscope for a better idea, but I suspect a lot of short wave UV is being emitted so did not want it running too long.

You were running this bare? The UV from these lamps can cause arc eye in seconds. As I found out from a broken 50w mercury lamp.

Keeping electrodes hot and gases ionzied.

Not quite, I did have a sheet of glass over it for protection, but still has open areas. Did not notice too much ozone production. It may be filtered for that.
