Chinese "175w" mercury

Chinese "175w" mercury

A generic "Westppinte" 175w from True Value. I bought this one in 2015 during the scare that MV lamps would be banned so I would have an extra spare for my one MV fixture.

This is surprisingly well constructed as far as the frame is concerned, but the arc tube and electrodes appear to be complete garbage; in two years of intermittent use it already has substantial blackening at both electrodes. No whitening material appears to be present. However, it has not lost any luminous efficacy.
I believe the arc tube is actually a 125w since a cheap HX ballast in a residential grade "yardblaster" fixture buzzes quite loud and runs hot. This isn't something I'd run long term on a CWA ballast, needless to say. I've since pulled it since I have much better quality lamps to use now; I presently burn a diffused Feit in said fixture.

Nice lamp indeed. So if it apperas to be 125W arc tube I'd run it on such ballast. Mercs are banned in Europe too, but there are ways to import them as "metal halide".
