My 100w MV collection

My 100w MV collection

Click to view full size image

I own only 2 100w Mercury vapor lamps. Both are brand new and work perfectly on my 70w PSMH ballast.

I do not need to buy any more since I intend to use MH on the 70w gear mostly.

The GE was an Ebay find last spring and the symban was part of a past shipment from my supplier.

Be aware that the recent GE MV lamps are junk. I don't know if that applies to the very recent ones but as of a few years ago they were horrendous. I wonder if it has anything to do with the starting resistor being so close to the arc tube? Usually it's closer to the base of the lamp. Their issue was cycling or just going dead after just months.

I'm wondering, is the arc tube in the 100w the usual size for 100w or is it actually smaller like a 50w MV. I know some of the junk lamps they use smaller arctubes to make them overdriven some and die faster. I sorta hope that this 100w lamp does have a small one then maybe it *might* work on a 50w ballast. That would also help prevent the starting resistor from cooking as much

That arc tube is smaller than a standard 100w MV arc tube. It's much bigger than a 50W arc tube though. I'd say it's about a 75 or 80W arc tube by size.
