T12s in old Görlitz double-decker train

Click to view full size image

20W T12 765 tubes in old double-decker train made by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, still used in Poland, but only two complete 4-part sets are in working condition out of 473 sets (plus 57 single spare cars) delivered to Poland between 1959 and 1977. Originally interior was lit by 1m 25W tubes but during repairs lighting was converted to 20W tubes powered by transistor DC->AC RS gear with two 20W tubes connected in series. Old fluorescent fixtures were retained, only lampholders were moved closer to each other in order to fit to shorter 20W tubes and as two tubes are connected in series, only every second fixture has gear installed with wires going between fixtures.

Almost looks like the inside of some spacecraft, the likes of Star Trek

A 240V guy severely underpowered by the presence of 120V

I have fresh news that we won't see those sets on tracks in 2017. 2016 was their last year, that's because of bad technical condition, repair would've been too much costly to justify it. While one 2-part set (Poland imported only 4-part sets, this one was shortened at some point in its life) is preserved in non-working condition by the Society for Preservation of Railway Heritage in Pyskowice (TOZK Pyskowice), there is no decision what to do with those two sets. While maybe some museum or society will buy them as a non-working museal objects, it is more likely that they will be scrapped.

I found out that previous info was wrong, those double deckers are alive and well, they appeared in Gdynia-Hel train today (May holiday in Poland) and will be present in Gdynia-Hel trains everyday in July-August period.
