today i found a 15 1/2 inch refractor a 400W sodium ballast, a 400W MH ballast with an incandescent warm up lamp, some 250 W sodium gear and an exit light

Nice score! The MH ballast is equipped with a quartz restrike. After a power outage the lamp will come on to provide a minimal amount of light until the MH lamp cools and restrikes. Some are also designed to come on when the MH lamp is cold and first warming up.

To resist is to piss in the wind, anyone who does will end up smelling.

Dang that black ballast looks toasted. Unless it's one of the early 60s advance ones that have the black sealant.

lol i reverse engineered the "quartz restrike" thing and used it in one of my projects, used a relay and a 405W streetlamp bulb
