Converted to Metal Halide

Converted this Ballast box to metal halide. Planning to install a normal Edison port in where that hole is, for the sake of simplicity, aswell as having the ability to blow up stuff.

I did not save the HPS ballast, as it was nice and toasty, But I did save the capacitor and Ignitor.

I'm building a wood enclosure for my 400w HPS ballast, and I plan on adding a variety of sockets on top as well as a protective cover of some sort for the sole purpose of popping old lamps.

That sounds fantastic... although I'd recommend a 1000w HPS instead... the pops are a bit more interesting with the higher rated ballast...

I wouldn't use wood for something like that...

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

It's going to have vents on all sides and a (rather powerful) cooling fan to suck air through it. Plus, the ballast doesn't run that hot in the first place.

Well, the 400w HPS ballast is the highest wattage HID ballast I have, but I am eyeballing some 1000w PSMH ballasts that are pretty reasonably priced on eBay. Only issue is, I am completely broke at the moment. If I were to get one, I would probably try building a spotlight with it as well as popping lamps (my 250w PSMH ballast puts on quite a show with burned out incandescents).

Was this an old plant lamp ballast-the plant lamps that have remote ballasts-they are usually in a metal box like that.

Yup, It says Crop master on it, so I'd assume so... However the original ballast appeared to have burst into flame.
