I bought it in a shop called Proops in Tottenham Court Road in London in the early 70's. The area was well known for electrical and electronic shops at the time, there was one that specialised in nothing but valves (tubes to you colonial types )

Proops was a proper goldmine, you went in and down some steps to a sub-basement and there was all manner of electrical, mechanical and electronic bits and pieces. I saw some GE 100W lamps and asked the guy if he had any more. He took me upstairs to a storeroom and in it I found this beauty..! I've only recently managed to get a step-down 240/120V transformer with the capacity to light it up

Update - I've just found that the company that had the shop in London where I bought this lamp is still in existence, although they no longer seem to trade in the old stuff they used to, and they have moved to Leicestershire.

Their website is here if anyone is interested

We're sad to report that due to an unforeseen accident Thomas as we called this lovely old lamp is dead.

It would be nice to have another, but it wouldn't be the same

Where can they be found..? I'd be reluctant to entrust one to the mail services, and I don't think anyone local to us will have any

We've decided it would be a fitting tribute for him to be on display in pride of place in our living room, see here
