Lithonia 4 lamp F32T8 instant start shoplight

Lithonia 4 lamp F32T8 instant start shoplight

This light has a boring instant start electronic ballast in it. The lamps are Philps ALTOs. This is basically fitted with all of the worst gear/lamps/sockets ever. Surprisingly, the ballast never blew in all of 3 years we owned the light.

My dad will think the upgrade is unnecessary, but I have 2 magnetic ballasts and sockets.

Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

I was just hoping if there was room inside for it to be physically possible. I would turn it into a 2 lamp F40T12 , just using the outer socket spaces in the fixture

I would too, it looks big enough.

I would get a 2x4 troffer with a big enough ballast channel and convert it to preheat (inner lamps) and rapid start (outer lamps). As for the starters, I would drill 2 7/8 inch holes in the ballast channel cover and add a place for the squeeze tabs from the starter sockets to go. The inner and outer lamps would also be separately controllable.

That would be neat, sadly, it is getting hard to find fixtures that have full size bodies. When your dad is no longer in the way of your hobbies, you should still be able to find good stuff at used places such as a habitat for humanity restore centre. Many of us on here find our goods from those stores.

My dad used to get in my way too when I was younger, its one of the reasons I am glad to be an adult lol

I like T12s, too because T8s are glary and boring (thin tubes with electronic instant start ballasts). Magnetic (slimline) instant start is not boring because it's magnetic, though. I won't even bother to ask my dad because I already know his answer. I have a spot to temporarily install 2 foot fluorescent fixtures in the basement (that's where I took the series of pics titled "Fluorescent Lover's Pull Chain Light") and can plug them in using extension cords. Something about 2 foot fixtures specifically F20T12: With middle cathode heating, an Advance R-2S40-1-TP ballast can power 3 F20T12 lamps in series and gives amazing startup flicker.
