Gardiner Feeling

Gardiner Feeling

Click to view full size image

These SOX highway lights in Repentigny, Quebec have a big Gardiner Expressway influence. And what makes this fun is that with Google Maps you can see all generations of streetlights. Some of the poles are still fitted with the original fixtures, some are replaced with newer SOX lights, and then some are even fitted with SONs. Scrolling forward in the years, they are replaced.

Wow thats cool seeing some LPS still in use. Toronto removed the last LPS fixtures on the Gardiner in 2006. The Alan expressway was LPS until 1991 and then they were replaced by FCO M400A's. The Don Valley Parkway just replaced them all with Highmasts in the late 90's IIRC.

I bet those poles once held fluorescent fixtures.

Milwaukee, WI still has some LPS streetlights in use. Some are the regular long ones like this but there are some 35w LPS OV-15's too.

Really? Could you show me on Google Maps?

Streetlights are most often overlooked by society as we go about in life. I have had an interest and fascination for them since I was very little. I love drawing detailed city-scapes and the streetlights are my signature. They always play an important role in my drawings. Like Bob Ross' clouds.

No. These had different LPS fixtures on them prior to these. These are actually spot replacements that were done around 2010!! So very recent LPS installation for Canada. Look at the other photo on my account.
I find this light way more pleasant than HPS or LED. Sadly, they are being phased out completely.

I'll look for them when I have time. They were still there as of March of last year. They haven't been aggressively replacing streetlights with LEDs there (in fact it seems like they are better with keeping old stuff than Minneapolis ). I actually only saw a handful of LEDs the last time I was there.

Actually, on the contrary, Minneapolis had 1950's fluorescent fixtures in use until the early to mid 1990's. I have a few photos uploaded of those.

Wow that is very recent spot replacements, the slip fitter looked as though it held Fluorescents once upon a time or like you said an older LPS fixture. I like the colour temperature of the old LPS though very much.

Yes, the slip fitter was made for larger LPS fixtures that are still in use there. Google Maps it.
