NEMA head

NEMA head

An HPS NEMA head at an intersection. This is on the same street as the GE Powr/Bracket. Now before the NEMA head was installed here, there was an HPS American Electric 165 ballast in arm fixture here, on its own pole. Another one that got me interested in streetlights as a kid. I want to say this NEMA head replaced it in 2010 or so.

Also it's kind of odd to see a NEMA head lighting a highway intersection here, as most intersections don't have lights this far out of town, or have several cobras on metal poles and truss arms if it's a major intersection.

Wow this NEMA has its very own transformer all to itself! The NEMA head would literally incinerate if it ever shorted out before the line-side fuse on that transformer popped.

To resist is to piss in the wind, anyone who does will end up smelling.

I'd love to see that.

Yeah it is funny it has its own transformer circuit, although I've seen a Powr/Bracket that does as well:

I mean, in reality the little wires would overheat and would probably burn up at one of the connections, as that would be the weakest connection. Once the connection burns up the circuit would be open but yeah, would be a site to see!

Update, this fixture recently went out, so it will probably get replaced with a new LED. I'm guessing it would be an Evluma, but I've yet to see them install one for roadway or intersection lighting so who knows.

What was the replacement? One of those Evluma things?
