How and why does he have this many lamps? Also, see if you can grab those old preheat industrial fixtures. Those are definitely WWII era. You could offer to replace them with something more modern, like those 2x96 HO fixtures you got a bunch of.

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Wow awesome! If there are any F90T17 lamps there I will definitely make a drive there to get some. Does he sell the lamps at a good deal? I can't afford the asinine prices F90T17s go for. Even if I can get myself some vintage daylight F40T12s or F48T12/HOs it'd be worth the drive if the lamps are cheap.

I have a hut but its in shoddy condition and whenever we get to renovating it, my mum won't tolerate with me putting fluoresant tubes

I literally have a loft space where my bulbs/lighting are limited to. I used to be able to put them in the downstairs loo as it was outdated and not very nice to use, but it went under renovation and now had to find a new home for my bulbs

I will give LEDisease a taste of my shoe

I'd love the chance to dig through that place...I bet there's all kinds of cool stuff in there
I'd have to hold myself back, due to very limited space to store stuff though.

streetlight88 has a point there.... cost is not the issue here, STORAGE SPACE IS!

He knows that this is obsolite technology, and with the solid state revolution in full swing its value decreases by the minute.
At some point in time, possibly already past, the value of the stock becomes less than the rent or council rates payed on the floor space....it is literally as blunt as that.....so it is probably costing him to continue to store them and if you don't remove them, he will have to PAY someone else to, any they will take the lot on a one-way trip to the tip.

So, yes, by all means offer him a hundred bucks for them....but that will open Padorra's Box for you as you will then have the responsibility to remove ALL.

The easiest solution would be to contact as many local collectors as possible and organize a date and time for all meet here and divvy them up amongst yourselves...in that way you won't OVERLOAD your storage requirements at home...all of you will share the storage. Just by yourself.....do you have a shipping container set up in your yard to contain them all? Will the local council zoning regulations in your area allow you to have a shipping container in your yard?

I agree that they NEED TO BE SAVED for posterity, and the best place for that is in lamp collector' collections...so I would be contacting as many as possible and organizing a "Jamboree Day".....imaging just how many times you would need to return with a Ute or Pickup to remove them all. (Is the shelving included in the offer, that is an important consideration too...)

Look above, I edited my post...there is more in it...

By Australian standards, Eastern U.S. states are just "postage stamps", Massachusetts is TINY, Rhode Island, you could jump over it in one leap... you would have to travel at least as far as North Carolina, (by Australian standards) to consider it a serious road trip.

Who is near you....."Paintballer" in Cape Cod...that ain't too far away! Rope him in!

"Streetlight98" is in Cranston in Rhode Island....nowhere in Massachusetts would be more than 100-150Km from there....

How many can you drum up down on Long Island, New York City and the rest of New York State? Buy Australian standards they are not that far away....only 180-250Km, geez, Burnie is further from Hobart than that!

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

A little over an hour-and-a-half from me. I might consider going once my shed is built. How's his pricing? Will he seriously let you have all this for $100? Probably at least $1000 worth here if he lets them go at 50 cents a pop! Is this a store that people could just walk into or is it a private building on his private property or something? Where'd these all come from? Was the former owner of the place a lighting guy?

@ Dave: road trip all the way to Massachusetts? Stop by RI if you do. I might check the place out. I don't want much though. Some Westy blackenders, some F48/HOs, and F90T17s if he's got any. Unlike a lot of the people after T17s I actually have a pair of fixtures to use them in so it's important I get some.

Dave...that is a hell of a long trip for you and Jeremy, NOW wer'e talking distances like in Australia! Anybody want to drive the Gun-Barrel Highway across the Nullabor to Perth? Don't fall asleep at the wheel!

I think you'll need a convoy Dave, you driving one and Jeremy driving another....bit of a trip for you too John, about from Hobart to Sydney which is starting to get to be a tiring trip.

I still feel you all have to organize it carefully so you all converge there at the same time, then yo'll all be able to divvy it up fairly and equitably. What about Robert in Atlanta/Marietta....I assume he isn't too far from you John? Those who can't make it, like Paintballer, but are still quite close, some of the others could take his requests and act for him during the divvy-up then deliver them to him later.
I feel this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for all of you and should be taken if at all possible and practical...but you'll all need to co-operate and communicate!

I must admit, it makes my "mouth water" too, but I'm just TOO FAR AWAY on the other side of the "Duck Pond". The thought of all those old North American incandescents....I agree with "painballer", a few Duro-Tests would be wonderful....

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

@ veryhighonoutput: If you get a few people together I will definitely join in if it's a good deal. I'll definitely buy $20-40 worth lamps lamps and other associated gear he has. While I love Westys, I really like GEs too. Depending on what type, I might want some of those boring ol' F32T8s too. Won't be able to get 8ft tubes though since they won't fit in my car lol. 4ft max but I could fit some 5ft tubes if there are any F90T17s left. From I understand there aren't any.

Ah my mistake. I thought you said he had boxes of T8s too. Eh, more room for T12s anyway without 'em! THREE warehouses? Holy $%$%$%#@ LOL.

Now, he has incandescent city lamps but does he have any HID lamps? Or twistlock photocells for street lights? Are there any fixtures (aside from what's in use) or just lamps? F48 slimlines are cool, though I'd be after some daylight F48HO tubes (I love the GE 800ma F48HO daylight tubes!) and F40T12s. Possibly a few random oddball lamps for the collection too. Any oldschool preheat T5s? Like the F4T5, F6T5, F8T5, or F13T5?

Definitely keep me in the loop! After you take what you want I'll take my picks through the stash, especially if he ends up giving this stuff away!

I would like to see what he has for incandescents. As for going up there I would love to see this warehouse very badly but work and vehicle problems prevent that from happening

@ Paintballer: If there turns out to be something you really want I can get it for you can bring it to you. I'm pretty much the half-way point between you and this place so I don't have a problem driving something out to you if you pay for the lamps. or if they're small (ie not fluorescents) id ship. VHO might be willing to help you out too.

It's in Massachusetts. If he will sell to anyone you'd have to pick it up. I doubt he'd ship, especially fluorescent lamps. I'd never ship lamps over 2ft.

3 warehouses??? I think you've hit the jackpot (depending ofcourse on their prices!)

Like others I'd love to go check that place out.
But its way to far from me

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

Or, since I'm moving, I can lift the buildings off the foundations, and plop them in an empty lot here. Then I'll have my own little ghost fort.

@veryhighonoutput,

In one of the first comments you named Incandescent lamps.
Do you have an idea what kind of lamps?
Tungsten or Carbon? and maybe their age?
I am curious about that.

Why have all these lamps have to move?
Is the owner ill or going to a retirement home?
Why does he collect so many lamps?

I am curious about the person behind this.

The owner is getting old has tons of stuff needs to down size his son is a huge in the Led biz and put him out of business. This guy want cash and wants you to buy bulk. Wondering how I can get it all except the ss- econo lamps. I might have just enough to do it. I might just ask for all 8' 400ma and 800ma (75 watt-110watt)lamps.

You should have to move to his place, than you don't have to move it all over to yours or somewhere else.
But thats is not a realistic option I suppose.
I understand this large quantity of lamps has only still a collectible value.
And I don't live in the states so it would be very expensive to ship to europ.
Besides I mostly collect older or antique incandescent lamps.

I think if the owner should move this to the landfill it cost him a fortune.
Most of the lamps are chemical waste.
I hope you and other collectors will find a solution so the lamps will become in good hands.

Don't let any of it get tossed out. Any that you or other collectors don't want or (like me are unable to get), you should suggest he sell on Craigslist and Ebay.

I realize I just got a little graphic lol. But it really baffles me when people refuse to sell what people want to buy. Did he buy all these in one shot? Heck no, he bought a little at a time and it built up over time. Well, that's the best way to sell it too! A little by a time. I'm not saying sell loose lamps, but at the very lest he could sell by the case... Maybe if you and him get a deal, a few of us members could tag along with you and buy a few odds and ends? As long as all of us added together take a large amount of stock I don't see him objecting.

Maybe he didn't like the guy for nickel dime him for a few bulbs I know how this guy works he needs a buyer! I'm going to get as much as I can for 2500 then I'm walking away for a while. If he needs to start throwing these away he can call me I can't spend more than that I'm at my limit

I think this man will sell all in one buy.
It will take years if everbody wants a few lamps.
Maybe is an auction the best opportunity.

@streetlight98:
In most cases I'd be like you, just wanting limited numbers of lamps.
Ofcourse it would also depend on the type of lamp...if he had 4' in C75 or 5k-Ultralume, or various colored, (maybe non-CW VHO's too) then I might be more interested in cases

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

I would buy bulk if I had a way to get there and back or if a collector nearer to me could pick them up for me. Hell I would buy $1000 worth if it were good F40s, T17s, full power ballasts and full power rare and/or old 8 foot stuff.

Depending what happens, I may be interested in any full-wattage 8' slimlines (Especially PowerTwist versions!), or smaller linear lamps (F15T8, F20T12, F40T12, etc) in unique colors. I particularly want Cool Green and Chroma 75.
