Absolutely amazing! I love that these were retrofitted to MH instead of being replaced. Hopefully they don't go LED. You mentioned the owner doesn't like LEDs, which makes me think it's an old guy that owns the place? (Older folks usually don't like any sort change; any other mall owner would certainly consider anything to save a few bucks on the energy bill lol) So hopefully he doesn't retire or otherwise get replaced by a pro-LED owner who will scrap all these beauties.

That is EXTREMELY cool. It would be awesome if they installed clear MV lamps in all of them!

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Ah cool that he's young. That means hopefully he'll be around awhile (and so will the lights!) The energy costs get passed onto the tenants anyway so he has no reason to care lol. Are these probe start MH or PSMH? I'm assuming MH since with remote ballasts, the ignitors can act up with HPS and PSMH unless you use special more expensive "long distance" ignitors.

If you can, could you grab a pic or two of the building-mounted ones that are still possibly MV? Maybe a late evening shot when they first come on?

OK, took me a little bit, but I was able to find this place on streetview by searching for bookstores in Winnipeg, Manitoba and looking for one that's name started with "MO" or "Mc". In this streetivew, some of the Form 400s are dayburning!

Some rare 60s Powerlites on a neighboring street too! Retrofitted from 400W MV to 250W HPS it seems.

Tell me about it. There's one Form 400 left in Anderson that I know of and I don't know how to make sure I get it when it comes down. I was born across the street from it.

Are these the ones that are still MV? I noticed one spot replacement Cooper OVY on the first pole.

Went on Grant and found A rare Canadian Form 400 Powerpack! the Canadian ones are all-cast whereas the American ones had an exposed aluminum reflector with another internal reflector inside.

You have a powerpack? Gotta post pics!

The ballasts mounted in the building? Are you absolutely certain those are for the parking lights? That set-up doesn't sound feasible. The voltage drop would make the lamps not power up and that would mean each and every fixture had to have it's own pair of wires running to it. Those poles have transformer bases, so if you popped the cover off the bottom of one of those poles I bet you'll find the ballasts in there. I mean, if there are actually ~100 ballasts all mounted in a room that's definitely the craziest remote ballast set-up I've ever seen.

Wow that's really weird. There's absolutely no need for such a complex system. Would make troubleshooting a nightmare. How do you know what ballast controls which light! And with all those wires running through the parking lot? With the ballasts in the pole base you could probably control the lights off just one or two 347V circuits but with the ballasts indoors, you'd have one "circuit" for each fixture, that's four per pole! A ton of wire. I don't see why on earth they'd do that? Amazing.

yea its alot and it makes all the ballasts very easy to work on and easy to change and they have fans running on them so they dont overheat and they last longer and each one is labled for witch one controls with fixture, there is a map on the wall with numbers for each fixture and a number on each ballast

Wow. I'm assuming the original MV ballasts were wired this way too? I'm surprised they used transformer bases on the pole since that's what they're designed for. Typically you still need to use potted ballasts in a transformer base though since they're not considered a "dry location". At least that means an LED changeout is extra unlikely, as they would have to rewire everything. If they do go LED they'd probably replace the poles and everything since that's usually what they tend o do to "modernize" it all.
