Nevco incandescent/LED scoreboard

Nevco incandescent/LED scoreboard

I was at my brother's hockey game and spotted this older scoreboard keeping score for his team's game. I think these look cool because they have LED displays, but they also have incandescent-backlit words. The bulb(s) in "shots on goal" look like they were replaced recently so they keep using incandescent lamps which is good.

Ah yes. Looks like a Fair Play manufactured board though. These have been around for quite awhile. My Jr. High and High School had smaller versions for basketball. I believe they have been manufacturing these going back to the 50s. Some of the vintage versions had analog clocks. I got to work these when I was younger. We even have a few in some of my church buildings basketball courts.

The more you hate the LED movement, the stronger it becomes.

The one in your first link looks like the one of the ones used in my old middle school for basketball games. Didn't Fair Play have their own design in the 70s and 80s with a diffused front that had all of the incandescent bulbs behind it like this BTW my brother was the one with the penalty when this picture was taken.

Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

My old elementary school has a very old Incandescent scoreboard that barely any bulbs work.

Long live Mercury Vapor and Incandescent street lighting!

Who made it? My high school has 2 1970s Fair-Play basketball scoreboards in the gym. I can try to get a picture.

My son is in a basketball league, so we travel to many different schools in WA state. I've seen some of these older ones, but they are generally not being used any more. Most of the time they are using some pathetic, folding plastic contraption that looks super cheap.

I am going to guess it comes down to the cost of labor these days, there's probably very few people capable or willing to service these signs anymore, and those who can probably want >$100/hr to do it.

That's no good. At least the old ones are still up though!
