This 500w halogen lamp came with a brand new fixture obtained from our wonderful material supplier Wurth !

I got 2 of these fixtures from them and both lamps were goners within a hour! The other lamp failed at the point where filament lead attaches to the ceramic . HIGH QUALITY !!

These are "WURTHLESS" !

A ballast and a double ended MH lamp would be a remedy for this failure...

Either that or it’s one of those ‘back street’ Chinese ones, where they copy the lamp, but don’t have the machinery or materials to halogenise it??

Current: UK 230V, 50Hz
Power provider: e.on energy
Street lighting in our town: Philips UniStreet LED

This particular one started dimming and blackening the second it was turned on so I'd say that rjuna2 and AngryHorse were BOTH probably right !

@ sol : I agree ! personally, I HATE THESE LAMPS AND FIXTURES ! I know there are a lot of people who like them , I am not one of them !

Before being a collector. This happened to me with halogen lights in my work. They lasted a few hours and did not shake them or move. change to gls. Now I have osram or philips gls bulbs and they last much longer. For me the change was more comfortable.

This has not been dosed with halogen...it is just a standard filament in a fused silica tube...no halogen cycle to transport the evaporated tungsten back to the filament. Whoever made this had no idea what they were doing...but I saw loads of that in Viet Nam....they just DID, but had no idea why or how. Like those guys in Go-Vap where were "copying" fan speed controllers, (glorified light dimmers)....they knew so little about electronics that they thought ALL TO-220 devices were the same...the original had a TRIAC in it, their copies had Three Terminal Regulators, Ordinary Transistors, MOSFETS, Shottky Diode pars or whatever TO-220 device they could get their paws upon....they HAD NO IDEA AT ALL....but was was really frustrating, I had no way of telling them that all their efforts were UTTERLY wasted.......they'd do better picking up turds for use as fertilizer!

And that was just the power pass device.....the circuit also had a pot, diac, snubber, phase-shift network......ARGHHHHHH!!! Tufts of hair flying everywhere!!

Never seen halogen lamp without halogen component.

I"m don't speak English well, and rely on online translating to write in this site.
Please forgive me if my choice of my words looks like offensive, while that isn't my intention.

I only working with the European date format (dd.mm.yyyy).

I lives in Israel, which is a 230-240V, 50hz country.

Remember dor, there are always possibilities you did not think of. Just because you have not seen or experienced it does not mean it does not exist, never did or never will.

I once thought that it was IMPOSSIBLE that a small country like Belgium could contain TWO lamp plants, Philips and Sylvania, what a goose I was....not only did it have these two plants in Turnhout and Tienen, but there were HUNDREDS of other lamp plants all over the country......so I stand corrected....and maybe you should think about it too for a bit...

@ TL buis : No, definitely 120v as these fixtures have "normal" power cords and plugs on them. This particular lamp started filling with smoke and dimming as soon as it was plugged in ! I tend to agree with Globe Collector that this particular lamp just wasn't manufactured correctly. As for the other one, it failed where the lead wire attaches to the ceramic contact assembly, probably a poor connection job !

This isn't the first lamp I've seen that was made wrong from the factory and probably won't be the last !

Untold millions of these would be leaving Chinese territory daily. The Chinese' attitude is....if you buy junk, we will make junk to sell to you...so really is is whoever buys them for whatever chain is selling them that really has to hold the can of blame.

Nail on head Andrew! us westerners are stupid, they see things like this on untold Chinese websites for about 50 pence each, then buy them in bulk thinking their getting a good deal, how many people buy dodgy, unsafe LED floods daily, just because the ‘same’ one is £10 dearer in reputable hardware stores!
