this Sylvania b2224 has had the back of its cover painted (and overspray on the housing) I'm assuming this was done a while ago because the paint is flaking off. I'm pretty sure they did this because the people in the house behind it complained that it was shining into the house, but correct me if I'm wrong

No that would be right. Glare blocking measure. Not the right lantern to use near homes because of the design. Aeroscreen would be better.

Where I am in Melbourne they are rare except for the LED lights we don’t have aero screen HID lights except near the airport but in QLD it is a different story where aero screen is really common

and in WA they haven't started using led for street lighting yet.. still installing brand new 42w CFL suburbans. Australia is weird.

They’ll probably start soon. The councils are most likely signing off the paperwork to replace the low wattage lights. In VIC it is up to the councils, some choose to use LED is some of them will choose the HF flu

I have actually asked, and they're not going too yet, because sometimes when LEDs fail (and we know they will) they sometimes strobe, and they're really concerned about it so the florescent Suburbans stay! lol

I have recently been reporting a lot of faulty street lights around the place, and the power company noticed and they want to write about me in the newspaper lol. I might be able to get some old streetlights too hopefully I've asked a few times but haven't gotten a reply yet. hopefulyy

It’s a bit of a different story in VIC. Over here it’s all about H&S so they will tell you to bigger off. For my collection I mostly rely on other collectors
