Do you have the gear to run the bulb?

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

Should be easily obtainable from eBay or somewhere. Nice little lamp, don't have anything under 80W for MV here at the moment, but got my eyes on a 35W tubular HPS on eBay

It'll be all right in the end, and if it isn't all right, it isn't the end

I will be running it off of an HPF F40T12 ballast.

My first one was a LOA (Philips) coated 50w HPS lamp IN a Philips box.

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

My first HID bulb was a cheapo Chinese 175w MV. I still have it somewhere, and it's the first photo in my gallery.

that balast can only put out 430 mA 105 volt
and this MV lamp need 630 mA at 95 volts
since 50 watt MV ballast will be hard to find
in the US. best thing be more readly available
is EU 58 watt fluorescent choke ballast
but u will need 240 volt supply.

or get a 39 watt magnetic MH balast with ignitor deactivated

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

It only ran up to 75 volts on the F40T12 ballast.

Nice one as a 1st HID lamp!
My 1st HID was a 175w MV

Assuming the ballast was putting out standard 430ma, that means this was running @ around 32w

Forget the lights..just give me a good lightning storm & tornado to go watch...

@xmaslightguy, I'm happy it was a mercury vapor and not high pressure sodium.

@funkybulb, do you mean a European choke style ballast for 5 foot F58T8 lamps? I want to get some European ballasts someday and run them off of 240 volts at 60 hertz (phase to phase). I want a few preheat (switch start) ballasts and I definitely want a semi-resonant start ballast!

yes those European 58 watt fluorescent choke ballast will run those mercury lamp perfectly
they do show up on ebay here and there

ok from my expeirances most of Europen
preheat/ Switch start gear work fine here
only problem you will run imto is 8 foot
125 watt control gear. it cause the capicitor
is in series with ballast will make lamp current
drive lamps at 1.2 A on 60 Hz. U have reduce
capicitor down to 6 uF. to run the lamp
properly and not overdrives ballast either
but I chose run it on Am Rad 5 uF cap
but it more like 5.5 uF that drop lamp current
down to 790 mA very close to run F96T12 HO
on preheat. SRS i have not play with them yet
i do have some SRS ballast in my collection.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

@funkybulb, I want a semi resonant start ballast for 40 watt T12 tubes so I can run them, not mercury vapor.

I have a couple SRS ballasts that will run a 4' or 5' T12 HO lamp.
Also have some UK switch-start ballasts - a couple for 5' 58/65w, & one for 8' 125w .. I'm not surprised to hear the 58w will also drive a 50w MV, its probably specifically designed for it just like the 125w ballast is designed to run 125w fluorescent or MV

Probe start MH ballast to MV conversion table:
175W MH ballast runs 175W MV.
250W MH ballast runs 250W MV.
400W MH ballast runs 400W MV.
1000W MH ballast runs 1000W MV.
1500W MH ballast runs Phillips ALTO F34T12 to get it to stop striating!

There's also:
50w MH to 75w MV
70w to 100w MV
100w MH to 125w MV.

For pulse start. Remove the ignitor.

Update on this lamp: I ended up accidentally connecting it to 120v when plugging it in. I ended up plugging the ballast box into itself. The cords were both brown. I might be getting another for Christmas along with a proper 50 watt MV ballast.
