At night and a bit foggy - the white light of the fluorescent steet-lamps looks quite nice. On the road-cross there is one hps lamp which makes a funny orange beam.

Through lg I realized, that fluorescent street-lighting is not the standard way to illuminate streets. I am glad that at the moment still defective lamps are replaced again with fluorecent fixtures at my place. In the center of vienna, there are more hps lamps and also some pilot projects with led lamps.
But as there are thousands of streets illuminated with fluoresents lamps as shown on this picture it is very unlikely that they will all replaced in the next years. It would be much too expensive. What I like most beside the white light is the blinking start-up of this lamps - if you see the lamps starting at dawn along a long street its like a firework to me - I should make a video of that...

In Germany are a lot of flourescent tubes streetlights too, the thing is ,that they will be replaced all the next time. For example all big citys and little citys in Bavarian (in Europe probably too)replace at first all Mercury lamps until 2012. Fuerth and Nuernberg are nearly complete Merc. and flourescent tube lighting free. Wuerzburg , Bad Kissingen , Bamberg , Hamburg
, Fulda , Suhl and a lot of other german citys are nearly complete Merc. lamp free. As cause were for example the big wattage and the merc.lamps would kill endangered insects.

But for luck , exist LG and all the lamps/streetlights collectors!

I am afraid this could happen in Austria too
Still I'm hoping that the responsibles in Vienna are inactively like always in this case...

The replacements have one good side, you can get streetlights. Where from do you think I get my lanterns from?

That is true - at least one good side
What do you think about that: I noticed tWo years ago the replacement of street-lights in some streets in Vienna and guess what - The new lamps are fluorescent again - modern design (I will make a picture of it soon) but fluorescent.

Linear - They looked like 2* T8 36 watts. I didn't see them starting but most likely they have an electronice ballast.
