Lowe's new lighting

Lowe's new lighting

I couldn't believe my eyes but wow all new light system they did away from the 6 lamp t8s and installed these 4 lamp f24t5HO fixtures they seemed to double up on them in certain areas. My God it is twice as bright as before and man coming in from the dark I had to squint my eyes for ten minutes until they adjusted plus I couldn't believe they changed these so soon this building is less than 10 years old.

I'm VERY surprised they didn't go straight to LED. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for these.

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Yes, I was pretty surprised too. In the new football stadium they built within the past year here, they used some F32T8 fluorescent lighting which I was quite surprised to see.

I first thought oh here we go leds but as I kept looking I noticed 4 tubes plus extremely bright with a slight softness these have to be f24t5HOS but unfortunately there a cover in the way so I'm not 100% sure???? But the f96t8 turrets look mint with 4100k ge bulbs

T12/ t17 there's a reason they made heavy magnetic ballasts

Interesting that the turrets there have 4100K GE lamps. The ones at my local Lowe's have 3500K Sylvania T8HO lamps. They used to have Cool White T12HO lamps but they gradually changed them out. The store does still have T12s in a few places, most notably some single-lamp 8' Slimline strips in the tool section that were relamped not too long ago with Sylvania 75W /DX lamps. Pretty unusual to see that in a major retail store these days!

Oh wow! The Lowe's here suck at keeping all the T8s going. They wait till more than half the tubes in the store are dead before group-replacing all the dead tubes. I remember when a lot of the Lowe's first opened here in the early-2000s they all had MH highbays with coated lamps and acrylic lenses. Then they went with the 6X F32T8s. They kept the MHs in the garden centers though, which is cool.

Please check out my newly-updated website! McCann Lighting Company is where my street light collection is displayed in detail.

You can blame these crappy two wires IS ballasts as the cause of the high rate of T8 failure. Long T5 don't lasts longer than your T8 on the same ballast topology.
The manufacturers simply should start to manufacture programmed start or at least resonant-start (Rapid-start in the american slang) electronic ballasts for the F32T8, and they would last as long as the F24T5. There is no adventage with these T5s over the former T8. Please stop blame the lamps themselves.

At one switch on for each 10 hours, i dont think the IS are the culprit. Most likely just lamps lasting their rated lifetime and bad maintenance

(lamps lasting their rated lifetime exactly - because old lamps were not necessarily rated to last any longer, but normally outlassted their rating by several times)

I hope that the fact the old lamps outlasted their rated life and the modern one lasts their rated life, isn't a form of planned obsolescence.

Nicksfan, I have 5 Lowe's stores within 30 minutes from me. They all range in age this store showing here has no t12 at all it is in Natick mass which is a rich pristine town they all ways have the best stores and update technology right away. But on the other hand the oldest one in Westboro mass has f96t12 75watt cwx in all shelves even has f4012 shop lights over the plants. Most of the 6xf32s are eol.

T12/ t17 there's a reason they made heavy magnetic ballasts
