Target LED Troffers

Target LED Troffers

Click to view full size image

I don't shop at Target often, but when I stopped in the other day I noticed the lighting was different. The majority of the store was lit with these two-tube LED troffers. At first I thought they were fluorescent, and it's nearly impossible to tell from the photo. I had to squint to see the individual diodes. They look like LED strips with diffuse covers, rather than complete tubes. One one side of the store there was one row of these same style troffers that were fluorescent, as well as a couple pockets of the old four-lamp T8 troffers (in one corner and at the front by the registers). The LEDs appear to be 3500K, but are a tad cooler than the fluorescents.

So the tubes themselves are diffused? Interesting. Still, LEDisease is terrible. Did you ask for their old fluoro gear?

Most likely it be 277 volt gear

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

It's actually pretty easy to tell in the pic because of the increased glare. Yuck! The ones here are still 2x F32T8. I despise those crappy two lamp louvered troffers anyway since they're too dim. I love the classic 18-cell satin aluminum parabolic troffers with three lamps and a black reveal around the parabolic cell door.

Ugh yeah I thought the 2 lamp T8 were bad this is worse!(should have used high ballast factor) our target used to have the 4 lamp ones, it's only slightly dimmer now since the old fixtures seemed like the reflectors were dirty and they used alto advantage 28W lamps, now they seem to use 32W
I also remember some of the perimeter got 3 lamp troffers which were fairly new at the time when they replaced them with 2 lamp. what a waste

Yeah they went from four lamp to two lamp and used NBF or even LBF ballasts, which I find ridiculous. They use 32W GE lamps here though, so no mercury starved lamps. Alto II lamps almost always go starved and my local Kohl's has Sylvania 835s that seem to have starvation issues. Never seen a GE lamp go mercury starved. If anyone has, I'm guessing it was just a one-time thing since GEs have a lot more mercury than Philips and Sylvania lamps.

Do the 2 lamp troffers (in Fluorescent) that are too dim underpower the lamps ? They should be fine if lamps are at full power

Yes, they do underpower them. If the lamps were overpowered, two would be enough, but at normal ballast factor, I think three or four lamps would be more appropriate. I've been in Targets and they're lit OK but could be brighter IMO.
