Old floods in Columbia Arena parking lot.

Old floods in Columbia Arena parking lot.

Click to view full size image

These are in the parking lot of the Columbia arena building that is being demolished. A few have small mini shoebox MH floods. Last time I was by the area, these were still standing, so maybe the demolition company forgot about them (shhhh don't tell anyone...) A few years ago, when power was still connected, these worked, but had very greened out lamps in them. Now, at the base, you can see the copper thieves have struck. Copper thieves had struck the building too, so they helped ruin a good piece of history.

Love!!

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Unfortunately, these will probably be destroyed in the demolition, too.

Worth trying to Save if they haven't been destroyed. I like the Spreader Glass, they are used to widen the Beam from Spotlight to Flood light.

Last time I checked, they weren't destroyed. However, I probably have no chance of saving them due to liability issues.

Actually I disagree with you ,

These lights CAN be saved , I know for a fact I could get them saved, all you have to do is talk with the demo guys about the fact that you collect lights and want these, You must offer money for them though so you will need to work out a deal that's fair for them and you must exchange names and phone numbers,
I have rescued many vintage remote ballasted merc wide lights with great results,

If you ask for them for free or ask if you can take them down youreself then it ain't gonna happen.

How bad do you want them? If I was on that job sight I know I could make it happen lol I'm not kidding!!

Well, if I get one of them, I probably wouldn't be able to keep them because I have very little space for a collection. But, maybe I can ship them to some other lighting collectors...

Hope you be able to get them. Definitely some old school design here with the ballast can in between the fixtures.

Long live the great old 20th century quality in electrical & lighting products!

Update: Bad news. We went by the area yesterday, and they were gone. No trace of them, even the concrete bases weren't there. Something tells me they had fun running over and smashing them with the excavators. The term "reduce, reuse, recycle." is almost unheard of anymore. Sorry I wasn't able to get them.

Yes, I know. We were planning on going soon to ask about getting them, but it's too late.

There is the small possibility that a non-LG lighting enthusiast got them. It's unlikely, but I can't really think about what would have happened to these.

Update (Again):
The fixtures are still at the site, but are smashed up and in pieces. There is one surviving floodlight 5' away from the barrier, as well as a ballast can. I didn't get them, because I was afraid it might be considered trespassing, but we will hopefully go by today and ask if they can move them to the outside so I can take them. It really annoys me thet they are throwing out these lights the same way they are throwing out the rubble. They should at least recycle them, because the capacitors could leak PCB's. See more info here (go to the bottom of the page): http://www.lighting-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4382.15

Well, we went there today, I had written a letter about how I was a lighting collector to show them, and was going to offer $30 for all of the ballasts and fixtures laying around the area. So we found someone who was working there, showed them the letter, and asked if we could take the lights. They said that they were required by law to recycle them, because of the PCB's and mercury (Kinda ironic that they discarded the MH highbays to a landfill along with building rubble if that was the case). Well, at least I can't say I didn't try to save them. Sorry I couldn't save them (again).

They were required by law to recycle them as they contain hazardous materials, therefore they are smashed in the pile of demolition debris ? Give me a break

Even if u did find them at scrap yard, it just means more damage and two u have a very narrow window of saving them at scrap yard
With in 1 or 2 days . Onnce it enter the recycle stream u have matter of mins to a hour. As get buried in shred pile quickly.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.
