There were about three of these lanterns on a road otherwise completely populated with LED :-(

This is a very rural area and apart from my personal dislike of them, LED street lights look totally out of place in this setting.

Lantern is a Philips MI50.
Yes LED street lights look even worse than they normally do, in rural areas. Mercury and SOX looks best there.

That's a nice scene with the trees too. Beautiful.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Wrenbury, near Nantwich. Somewhere around here I think. Street view is way out of date on this bit, unfortunately.

Update - we were in the same area last month, and they have all gone, replaced by LED We were speaking to the lady who works in the local grocery store and she said that some of the local residents had campaigned to keep the SOX lamps but were unsuccessful

It's cool how they actually tryed to keep the SOX. Shame they lost. Here, my city still has HPS but that's because they know how bad the LEDs they're installing are! It's 95% LED and 5% HPS.

Around here, it's 99% LED and 1% HPS (mainly in the smaller side streets where the replacement crews haven't got to yet). There are a very small number of SOX lamps on a couple of industrial estates and the car park of the police station opposite where we live is still lit by Thorn Precinct lanterns with 80 or 125W mercs

Nice! The last SOX here got destroyed in a demolition of a gas plant here. Lots of HPS, MH, and MV as well as the SOX light (Philips, can't remember the model number) were all destroyed. The last MV streetlights that are not on a road in my area are here. They are 250w and have clear lamps. There's also another pair not in the picture. There was once another pair of these at a restaurant on a nice white Union Metal pole but sadly the owners removed both the lights and pole with no replacements in their place.
