Came across this lot of 'junk' for $5 at a garage-sale, and for that price I grabbed it - just for the plant lamps since they looked to have little use & I do still run some T12.
The fixtures are just your typical cheap shoplights. All went straight to the yard for a cleaning (lamps then went inside, but fixtures got left on the side of the house...they'll be fine there for now)

Lamps are
#1 & 2: GE Plant & Aquarium
#3 & 4: Sylvania Workshop F40
#5,6,7: Philips Plant & Aquarium (sadly one is EOL)

Fixtures are
#1: Electripak RS
#3,4,5: Standard LOA electronic-start pre-heat

---
In reality I should upgrade all my plant & fish lights to T5HO & give up old stuff like T12's .lol. but they do just fine for my needs...

There's one of those cheapo LOA's in a friend's garage. The original ballast failed and I put a Sylvania Quicktronic on top of it since it wouldn't fit inside.

LEDs = Downgrade 99% of the applications.

I've got a couple of those funky Electripak fixtures with the open-coil ballasts. They were very LOUD and they fry fast with 34w lamps. Both mine have their original ballasts gone (one burned up upon being plugged in for the first time in 20 years, the other had a lead break off) but I'm going to put directwire LED tubes in them, or at least go F32T8.

That Electripak fixture looks a lot like the two Homtek fixtures i have except the Homtek fixture come with a better ballast (i think).

Old lighting is, and will always be, the best lighting.

The el cheapo shoplights are pretty useless but they work great for swapping out family members' vintage fixtures. I've converted numerous cheap shoplights to T8 and gotten some nice vintage lights in return. If I didn't have a huge stock of T8s to burn through I'd probably start direct wiring them for LED tubes but since I already have the bulbs I'm still buying Sylvaia Quicktronic ballasts to stick in them. The price for a pair of LED tubes or a ballast are pretty close. If I had to buy the fluorescent lamps the LED route would be cheaper but I've got a number of F32T8s I've saved from retrofits at work.

The only thing(s) on the shop lights that aren't cheap are the input wires into the fixtures. I'm prolly wrong
