Looks like they're running on some type of magnetic gear. I see that this was a F40 wraparound but I see it's cover is gone.

@ stteetlight98, i know right. They made F40 lamps with 3000+ lumens in the 60's.

Keep government out of the lighting industry.

For real though, It seems like my CW F40s that I found in friends garage seem brighter than my F40T12 DX Lamps made in 2017

Yup, just another way to force people into LED. Make the T12 and even T8s look like arse so people will fall for the LED trap. Just like they make new fixtures with channels to small to fit magnetic ballasts or LED fixtures with the same build as fluorescent but lacking the brackets and parts but twice the price. All those programs where you can get rebates or discounts if you have all your lights changed out to LED and the old fixtures HAVE to be turned in so they can be destroyed....so they no longer exist and fall into someones hands and prevent an LED sale.

They don't want you all to use what works best. Its just a big scam played under the guise of being green when it really isn't at all.

GE still makes 2900 lumen F40s.

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Yes I have some of those and plan to buy more packs soon. I consider those an olive branch, it wont be around much longer and even if so, with all those tight mercury limits these days, they dont perform as good as ecolux did but it'll certainly do as the last option! Plus I can only get 6500K and 3000K ones in Canada

I have a good stash of F40/ADV35's which are 3600 lumen lamps. Run them on electronic gear and they are 10% more efficient.

@Powergroove: wow 3600L is top of the line! Probably the brightest F40s made. As far as lumens per watt are concerned, an F32T8 beats it by just a quarter-lumen. For all intents and purposes, theyre the same, though the extra few watts gives you an extra 6000 lumens. Its too bad T12s are a dead breed and T8s even.

@lightingguy: Really? I wonder if they're no longer made by GE then? Do they have the weird "new-Sylvania" style endcaps?

The 3000K ones and apparently the 4100K have the Sylvania looking end caps, the daylight tubes have the normal GE caps.

The Ecolux name has been dropped and the package design is changed. Now they just name the tubes based on the application. 3000K is kitchen / bath , 4100K is Utility and 6500K is Active Spaces. All of them are 2900 Lumens I hear with the 4100K one possibly also being offered in 2100L

The daylight for example is now 'GE Active Spaces' , before it was 'GE Ecolux Daylight'

If you do happen to see Ecolux tubes in stores buy them then and there! , they will be old stock. Im reallly regretting not buying up loads of them while they were around, especially the GE Ecolux Residential Light which was 4100K and 3150 lumens - CRI 72 . Thankfully I have 4 packs of 2

@streetlight98, I've preached that till im blue in the face. Run T12 at 8 watts a foot and you would gain that .25 lpw back and then some because of the greater amount of phospher the t12 will hold. Same as comparing pg17 to t12. The t12 will appear brighter to the eye because the phospher is burning more intensely however there is less of it to absorb the energy. PG17 puts out more lumens due to more surface area. The phospher burns less intense therefore it will also last longer.

Keep government out of the lighting industry.

Higher loading of the phosphor usually means worse decay as the tube ages too, which hurts both lumens and CRI.

He might not have gotten an email notification. Sometimes I don't always get email notifications for comments on my own pictures until I put my own comment. You are supposed to be automatically subscribed to all of your uploads but it doesn't work 100% of the time.

I disabled email notifications because they cluttered up my inbox. It's easy to just check the photo for comments, so that's what I do.
