Before the LED transition in Downtown Brownsville

Another one of my favorite fixtures, a Cooper OVM. These are my personal favorite luminaires, I mainly see these on some highways across Texas (US-281 North S.A., I-35 North of S.A., US-90 in S.A., I-35 in Round Rock, and Beltway 8 on the west side of Houston). There are also some scattered around on strips in major thoroughfares here in Brownsville, mainly around the older neighborhoods as expected. I really love the fixture, and I think these emit a really nice lighting.

I love the OVM too. It's not my FAVORITE streetlight, but it's definitely up there. There's one right outside my work with a clear 400W MV lamp, and it recently started dayburning. It looks just like the one in your pic except it's on a short arm on a wood pole. Unfortunately, OVMs and other Cooper fixtures are quite rare in my area.

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

well it one of older strech of lights in I35
anyway many people refer US 90 as Hwy 90
to the locals . Hwy 90 you will find some nice
double guy poles there that once had MV on them. now some going led on there. but mostly OVW though.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

The optics of the OVM are a hold over from the older Westinghouse OV-25.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper...the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes!

Internally the OVM and OVS are almost identical to the last generation OV-15 and OV-25. I've always wondered why they kept the rear-seated PC on the OVM but decided to move it up on the OVS. The OVM is the only Cooper-designed cobrahead to have the rear-mounted PC socket. I personally think the rear-mounted PC sockets are better since it's not directly over the reflector, the hottest part of the light. I've heard of a lot of older lights with front-mounted PCs (like the M-250R1) have the PC gasket weld itself to the PC socket after the light had dayburned for some time or the PC socket just disintegrate when the lineman removed the old PC during maintenance because it was so brittle from heat. The GE PC sockets have always been rather skimpy compared to Westinghouse versions IMO.

I think City of Tomball, TX has the OVM, but in HPS.
