GE Hungarian-Style End Caps

GE Hungarian-Style End Caps

Click to view full size image

Here is a closer look at the ends of a couple newer GE T12 lamps. The end cap appears to be the type found on T12 lamps formerly manufactured in Hungary. In addition, a cap similar if not identical these can be found on some recent Sylvania lamps. This led to some speculation that LEDVANCE/Sylvania may have been producing these for General Electric. If they are truly the same, perhaps it's the other way around, despite the caps also resembling those found on Sylvaina Lifeline-era lamps to some degree.

Sylvania's use of these end caps seems to have been temporary, as all of their latest lamps have their usual end caps again. Has any one else spotted them on GE and/or Sylvania lamps? I wonder if General Electric is retiring the old raccoon eye caps for good.

I haven't seen GEs with this style endcap (but it's been awhile since I bought GE T12s). However, last year I bought a pair of GE F48T12/HO lamps at Lowes made in 2017 and they were Philips-made. Had the Philips date code and endcaps.

Sylvania actually sourced these end caps from Tungsram for a short time. I remember seeing some with a Sylvania end cap at one end and a Tungsram end cap on the other. Crazy isn't it.

May all the great lighting technologies have their place in history.

If these GE's are made by ledvance, it certainly would explain alot. I have both the ledvance 3000K and the GE 3000K tubes and they behaved the exact same way, with the low mercury and performance issues. I also have the Daylight F40 GE lamps and they have the normal GE style caps and those work great. Ran one of those new daylight ones with an older daylight Ecolux in the same fixture and they were identical in performance and colour
