TA- DA ! The EMT Pole's Replacement !

TA- DA ! The EMT Pole's Replacement !

Click to view full size image

Here it is , The replacement for the EMT pole ! Total height form the ground to the slipfitter is 15'-9" The arm is attached to the pole with a 3/4" grade 8 bolt with hardened steel washers and a self-locking nut. The pole is attached to the garage with a 10" x 1/2" lag into the roof structure and at the bottom is a piece of 3" angle iron attached to the bottom plate of the wall with (3) 3/8"x 4" lag bolts. The pole is attached to the angle with (2) 1/2"x 2" grade 8 bolts with hardened steel washers and nylon locking nuts.
I'm using the M-250R1 to test this out, I haven't decided on the permanent light yet and still plan on adding a couple more braces for more strength at the roof line.
Wiring will be 240 v with a switch on the pole ran through black painted conduit (Eventually!) AT LEAST IT WORKS !

Looks awesome! M-250R1s are really nice lights. I really like how clean this looks. The mounting arm is a nice touch. Has that nice vintage character to it IMO. The mounting height is just about perfect too IMO.

Thanks ! the R1's have perfect proportions (IMO) . In order to add even more character, I also made a finial for the pole top (haven't painted it yet) from some home repo wooden porch railing parts! I test fitted it and it looks rather cool . the permanent light will probably wind up either a M-400 or maybe a finned M-1000 ! MV of course

I’d bend those support brackets on the aluminum arm to wrap around the black pole.

As nice as this is, my OCD cannot stand the black pole against an aluminum arm. I would have had to paint the pole gray if I was doing this. Of course, this is just my own idiosyncrasies, no offense meant. Besides that, your setup looks amazing

Thanks ! No offense taken ! Gray or silver WAS my initial plan BUT, I already had the black and didn't want to buy the silver.

@ Memorex_Telex : that thought crossed my mind but,in the end I decided I'll make a bracket to attach to the pole to bolt them to instead (my screwed up brain won't let me do it the easy way!) Besides, i like making things !

Yeah dont bend the arm. That's a really nice arm and it should stay as it was originally.

In the late 90s and early 2000s here the electric company used black poles with standard bare aluminum tapered arms. They look a little dorky I think the all black pole and arm they use now looks dumb too because they still use a standard gray light. I'd rather the utility company just use their standard bare aluminum poles like they use for their freeway and urban installs.
