Here you see 2 x Thorn EMI 125 watt MBF/U Mercury Fluorescent Lamps with 3-pin BC caps, these were commonly used for Industrial and Street Lighting,

80 and 125 watt Mercury Lamps were fitted with 3-pin BC Caps, as back in the 1930's to 1960's older MB/U Mercury Lamps looked the same as a 150 and 200 watt Pearl GLS Lamps, and to avoid then being accidently fitted in a Fitting with NO Ballast, they fitted a 3-pin BC cap to avoid this mistake, by end users.

Date Code = 51 = March 1986.

I still think 3-pin BC caps are better than E27 for this size of lamp. Such a pity they fell out of use
