Mercury Thermometer with 3D-Printed Caps/Holder

Mercury Thermometer with 3D-Printed Caps/Holder

I had this old thermometer for 15 years in a shelf because the original plastic caps had been damaged by weather.
Now it has new ones (printed by my colleague with an ABS filament).
The scale is also new - the old one was deeply yellowed out by the sun. I've also fixed an original design "flaw" in the bottom part of the scale. Can anybody guess what it was?

Exactly. The original scale went down to -50°C which would never work.

Good job!

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Good job!

Thanks. Unfortunately the printer is too small to print streetlights.

Many similar termometers have +50C to -50C scale. However, in one case the scale ends -40C.

No problem with common alcohol thermometers - only with mercury ones.
Btw. I'd like to see mercury vapour lamp starting with frozen mercury. With this rapid global warming this could soon be a problem even in Siberia.
