NOS GE Bucket Light Installed!

NOS GE Bucket Light Installed!

Click to view full size image

Decided to replace the GE cobrahead with the GE bucket light! The R2 was starting to pull the mounts right out of the shed so I just took it down before it destroyed itself. The bucket light was placed on a 10' pressure treated wooden board, raised up in the air and lag bolted to the shed and other wooden blocks to stabilize it. Also attached a wooden anchor to prevent the board from swaying. At the moment, much like the last light, it is powered by extension cords. But this time the lantern is grounded plus the wire electrical tapped and supported by cable staples instead of just dangling wherever. Eventually the shed is going to be powered and the light will have proper wiring installed. The M250R2 will eventually come back to join it outside also hardwired...

Are these fixtures only called "bucket lights", or are there other names for them? They are my favorite type of lamp and I want to find some to put up as i'm new to collecting lights.

I know a lot about ripple control systems, primarily the transmitters as I have made my own. PM me if you have any questions about them.

Bucket light, area light, yardblaster, barn yard light, security light, etc are the names they go by. The commercial versions with clip on reflector/lens are known as NEMA heads.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Some stupid places call them "Dusk to Dawn". That`s what I called NEMA heads and yardblasters until I joined LG. Now I call NEMA heads NEMA heads, and yardblasters yardblasters. My brother still called them "Dusk to Dawns" a little longer though.

The bucket lights with the ballast mounted in a short arm that look like this are usually referred to as Powrbrackets (GE trade name), Ballast-In-Arm (AEL trade name), power brackets, or bracket lights.

Perfect, I'll look for those, hopefully I'll find one soon.
