This is a Mercury Vapor luminaire,
but the blue nema tag has HPS marked on it instead of MV.
Talk about a production error.

It IS MV because the sticker is blue. Besides, Ellard Road uses MV lamps.
So obviously, the HPS is the mistake!

It's MH. I can barely see the blackened burner with their heat-reflecting paint on the sides. Its near the center somewhat to the right side of the reflactor. (To answer Jace's ?. Its clear.) It's faint but you can see it. I saved this pic on my HDD. I incleased constrast in order to make the MH's burner show up. I can post here for a while to show where it is if tpirman lets me.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

I changed the constrast of this picture so I can see it better. It's likely its MH from what I can see on the new picture. I can post it here but I have to ask tpirman if I can do so for a short time. Let's see about this tomorrow.

It's possible that they changed this fixture from MV to MH. I read somewhere that if you use MH on MV ballasts, the lamp will blacken like here.

Wrong, Gailgrove. It's Mercury Vapor 'cause if it were MH, the tag would be red.

Well the tag is screwed up, I mean it says HPS and is blue, but you can see the painted ends of a MH arc tube through the refractor. But it may have a MV ballast.

David F...I see the MH arc tube in it...sometimes linemen mistakenly or decides to put MH in MV fixtures.....I have seen that happen before.....Just because the tag is blue does not mean there is a MV lamp in it......

So that means this fixture is a MV fixture that has a MH lamp inside it...

Me, FGS and Gailgrove agrees we see a MH arctube inside the refractor....and 175 watt MH lamps will work on 175 watt MV ballast

How can you see it if it's hard to see the bulb through the glass?

Well, if I ever get the chance to do a night scene special again, I'll wait for this one to start so I can determine whether it's MH or not. If it starts pink, it'd be MV. It might be a coated MV bulb in there. It's the only way I can verify it truthfully, or unless it falls off the pole from a storm and the housing is down, I can check the label insode, or if a lineman is replacing the bulb, or whatever, I can ask them to see what lamp type it is.

The power of suggestion makes it appear to be MH, I see it too- you can just barely make out the white ends and short, fat arctube. Only way to be sure is to see it lit. With the wrong sticker it could be MH, MV, hell it could be anything!

Nothing like the beautiful cool white light of a coated Mercury Vapor lamp and the soothing hum of it's magnetic ballast.

I can see the painted ends of the arc tube too. There are plenty of mercury fixtures in the LA area relamped with MH lamps, so you get the idea.
