That is sad because Vita Lite/Duro Test are usually very long life tubes. Chinese tubes generally suck. I hate when reputable manufactures outsource to china, then destroy their "good name".

thats how i looked at it too.
but i am surprised at how these are doing.i repaired 40+ makeup mirrors a while back for a client.
they get used every day and are still fine 2 years later.had a few duds from this lot of tubes but they were few and far between.a loose base and 2 leakers.i have had worse initial failures with phillips and ge.
i have these in the camping lights and in a dazor magnifier with no issues.think i will set one up as a nightlight and see how long it takes to run it into the ground.

I have had more dud Philips tubes than any other. The night light test would be the ultimate, epecially to see how it ages.

As a note for Duro Test..... Vitalite is 5500K, and their 5000K lamp is Optima50.

NNNN!

And I bet there is no vitalite "formula" in these.... I think that got lost some time ago as the 15 watt Vitalites are nothing more than Sylvania made Design 50s with the Vitalite logo, but I was unable locally from the Sylvania distributor to get 15 watt Design 50s unless I bought a case. And those on eBay were less expensive.....

NNNN!

i suspect vitalites have been rebadged generic lamps for a long time.just like ottlites.
i got 2 cases of the ebay f15t8 vitalites and they are identical in looks when on to chroma50 and design50.
i also suspect the 6 watters are a modern 5000k triphosphor.
does not matter what it is if your target is suckers.
the vitalite and ottlite have been more marketing bs and hype since their beginning anyway.

Duro-Test was acquired by Angelo/Westinghouse in 2000. Either these lamps were made between 2000-2004 or Duro-Test outsourced production themselves prior to the buyout. The etch is very similar to USA-made Duro-Test T5s which were also plain text and didn't use normal ordering codes.

This lamp:
6W T5 P.H.
VITA-LITE
DURO-TEST
MADE IN CHNA

USA lamp:
6WT5PH MADE IN U.S.A.
COOL WHITE
DURO-TEST

wish i knew more.
these are in plain white boxes lined with bubble wrap.no sleeves.nothing on the box.so no way to tell.
hell they could be counterfeit!
the guy i got these from was selling lots of durotest stuff.iirc i still have some traffic signal bulbs i got from him.
edit.more info.
funny turn of events here.a neighbors friend has a small machine shop in chicago.he was here over the weekend visiting.
we went to the garage to hone a dirtbike cylinder for him.the honing machine has a 2x 6w t5 fixture on a gooseneck.
i put in 2 of these vitalites several years ago.
he noted that he had several fixtures like it but had issues finding the bulbs without ordering them.said he was spoiled when he worked for durotest.could get any lamp he wanted for asking.told him that i have vitalites in f6t5.NO WAY!they were NEVER made.so they must be after the buyout when he retired.
he left happy to have the dirtbike ready to assemble and the work lights relamped with something he always wanted but never existed.
so conclusion is NOT a real durotest product.he did say they were better than the ge that he had put in one of these lights a while back.noticeably brighter on top of better color rendering.

I might be interested in some in the coming weeks if there any left. The track record is what really counts...and as you describe above, these lamps don't seem too bad. Besides, I can always try to scrape off the origin, lol. I am interested in some 6w 5000-5500k as I like that color in general but I end up using a wide range of kelvins depending on where they are installed.

well i know of one that died.it was run 3 years straight in a decorative tv lamp.my friend called this morning to let me know the "panther lamp" quit.
i told her to replace the tube with one of the spares i left her.
right at 3 years of 24/7/365 -power failures.
its a push start so no blinking.it wouldnt stay lit.damm good for a china tube!
