Here I pulled this light out of service from Laundry Room Light Fixture because it was getting harder to strike up. My mother and myself have to repeatedly flick the switch to make it work. So I replaced with General Electric version. Now it strikes up without problem. You can see not much blackening near the end, but also at the "u" area as well.

The T-8 Alto U-bends are famous for going mercury starved. I've seen more fail from mercury starvation than the normal depletion of emission material.

Preheat and T-12 fluorescents forever! Down with LED's and instant start T-8 fluorescents.

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

Where I used to work, I had 4 fixtures with the 32W T8 U-bends over my desk and they used to use Altos. Two of them were replaced and the replacements lasted two days and looked like the one in your photo. The rest lasted only 9 months tops and failed due to.. you guessed it.. mercury starvation.

Preheat and T-12 fluorescents forever! Down with LED's and instant start T-8 fluorescents.
