Three F4T5 lamps running in series, on incandescent ballast, on 120V

Three F4T5 lamps running in series, on incandescent ballast, on 120V

This was quite a while ago. If I remember right, it would only run for a few seconds before extinguishing. I have two generic Chinese 4 watt lamps whose arc voltage is, like, 50V after they've warmed up, and I know I had to use at least one of them here. Probably if I had good quality lamps which retained a ~30V arc voltage, this would run reliably. But it fired, nonetheless. Ballast bulb is 40 watts.

Were you able to start all of these fluorescent light bulb using a wire across from first to last bulb skipping the middle one?

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

Nope, each lamp needs its own starting device. I just connected them all up for preheating, applied power, and then removed preheating from them one at a time.

Ooo this is cool. I love the old school T5 lamps. They're great for experiments and small projects.

Please check out my newly-updated website! McCann Lighting Company is where my street light collection is displayed in detail.
