Still I believe something is wrong with your magnetic ballast or meter. It certainly lists 0.62A line current with 35W lamp on the nameplate, but you show 0.759A at close to nominal 123V on your watt-meter. PFC capacitor is bad?

@Maxim
I could write a book with all of the weird obsessions I have had, one notable one from when I was very young is if I spun around (like going up multiple flights of stairs), I would count how many times I spun and then when I was done I would spin the opposite way, as if I was unraveling an imaginary string that had wrapped around me.

I also learned to talk very late. I think I have improved sort of decently, but I am definitely very different than others in a crowd if you pay attention (this of course led to issues in school). Interesting that you like public speaking, public speaking is a total disaster for me, unless it is something I am interested in (so pretty much never). That is a skill many people would love to have.

I have a battered "Wind Chaser" fan for when it gets really muggy (it makes quite a racket and vibrates excessively, especially on high), a large Air Monster, a small Air Monster, and a no-name Chinese clip fan from Walmart (bearings are starting to fail on that one, as it's run 24/7).

We had a Patton at one point, but I have absolutely no idea where it wound up. My favorite fans that I see out in the wild are those pedestal-mounted Pattons... they are beasts.

I'm not formally diagnosed with anything, but I'm likely at least a little bit autistic. Also ADHD for sure. I have the same "can't focus for sh*t" vs. "hyperfocused to death" stages that people with ADHD do. Something just clicks, and my brain starts firing on all eight cylinders.

Also mild OCD is probable, I've always had an obsession of adding values to numbers to get an even value, ie, 10,000. I remember i would stare out the car window and do that with every mailbox number I would pass. Now, as a driver, I do it with license plate numbers when stopped at a red light or in standstill traffic. Also, I used to have an odd obsession where if I tapped two fingers together, I would have to tap every finger twice– up from the pink to the thumb and down again. Weird, I know.  ;D

Finally... if that wasn't enough, i learned to talk very late. But once I learned, you couldn't shut me up if you tried. And social settings have always been difficult (i couldn't read the room in my younger years), though now that I've spent years working on that I've vastly improved. Weirdly enough, I've always loved public speaking...  :eoled: :eoled:

@rjluna2
Thanks! I think I manage pretty well

@Al_M
That is sort of what I was alluding to, but I didn't want to say it outright lol

Probably 99% of members on here, and those who say they aren't are most likely in denial.

You are not alone, Multisubject.  I do have mild autism and able to manage it :)

thanks for providing the test results and technical information, @Laurens and @Medved and @RRK - very helpful in gauging the performance and efficiency of the Qianshun ballast.

so far, i am still VERY impressed with the 35W one i purchased.  :)  i ran it for 12 hours yesterday and it was just barely warm to the touch afterwards. i also had a couple of voltage sags when my air conditioner started, enough to cause all my lamps to dim or flicker for a short amount of time, and the ballast re-struck the lamp instantly as expected, no "complaints" or issues.

i'll see how it holds up over time, and i have a Qianshun 18W SOX-E ballast arriving at my home tomorrow afternoon so i am looking forward to testing that one out as well.

assuming all is well with these ballasts over time, i will in the future consider a high recommendation of these ballasts to those of us looking for new, efficient gear to keep our SOX lamps running happily.

BTW - the magnetic ballast i have been comparing against is an Advance 71A0490 (photo attached). i have 5 of them and have been swapping between them for control purposes - all behave pretty much identically as they all have the same date code and were in more-or-less daily service at my workplace for the same amount of time (about 12 years). i've replaced the 14uF capacitors on 2 of them to bring them back within spec; the other 3 are doing fine. this ballast choice could explain why mine have higher losses - they're dual-purpose ballasts that can also run 55W lamps, so i imagine some compromises in efficiency were made to allow them to run both lamps.

Central AC is very expensive to install in many places in Europe. Houses here are mostly designed for hydronic central heating systems, not for forced air. Installing central AC requires ducting and since walls here are most often made from solid cinder block, gypsum block or brick, there simply is no place to put ducts.

Split multiple units are usually the solution and are becoming more popular because we want to get away from the dependency on natural gas. Heating with split unit heat pumps is very efficient. But it goes without saying that it's very expensive, because you'll still need non-trivial holes in walls for the refrigerant lines, a unit in every main area etc etc.

Now, portable ACs are getting incredibly popular. But it costs 23 cents per hour to run a small one (the average cost of power in the Netherlands is about €0,23 per kWh). Downside of those is that they're horribly inefficient compared to whole house units. The COP of mine is only 2,5.

Now we arrive at the final point. I can run my AC for free since i have 4 solar panels on my roof, which produce enough power (about 1200w) to power the 1000w input power portable AC. Great! However, there is a problem. The sun only hits the panels just right in the daytime. Exactly when i'm at work.
I cannot leave my window open for the AC hoses to get through because of the risk of burglary. The feed through panel in my window is absolutely not burglary proof and i have not yet found a way to do this without this issue.

All that said, i love summer. After the heat wave a few weeks back it's been consistently 20-25 degrees, with a few rain storms in between which feeds all the foliage everywhere. Everything is lush and green, i can walk outside in shorts and shirt, it cools down enough at night to avoid heat soak in the house and i can't imagine a better place to exist right now.

I have kind of wanted to ask this question for a while now, so here we go.

I have been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and OCD. Well, every one of these can cause someone to develop a hyperfixation, meaning that they are super super into certain topic(s) that can almost entirely consume their daily lives. My main hyperfixation is definitely anything with electricity, and has been for most of my life, it is what I am thinking about probably at least 10 hours of every day (as of now). On of my more minor ones is scientific glassblowing, and both of these hyperfixations come together very nicely in the form of lighting. I have other hyperfixations as well, but they are irrelevant.

No offense to everyone else, but you are probably at least a tiny bit crazy if you are on this platform, whether it is a diagnosable condition or not. I just would like to see if anyone else can relate, I know this can be a sensitive topic for some people, obviously if you don't feel comfortable talking about it you don't have to say anything.

I would also like to say thank you to the majority of the users on this platform that make others feel included no matter what, you make the world go around.

Thanks!
