I've never seen a two-foot VHO or HO fixture, nor have I ever seen two-foot VHO or HO lamps. I don't think they ever existed. What applications would they really be useful in, aside from being used in refrigerated displays in supermarkets?

I think they may exist,I'm sure I've seen them used in the ends or corners of odd shaped outdoor illuminated signs which would need reliable starting in cold weather.

A while back there were some two foot HO striplights on ebay which a couple of us bought. I've seen them (F24T12/CW/HO) used in small outdoor signs. Here's one from a member.

No, but how about PL-L 55W?It is basically F54T5/HO folded in half. It's not so compact, but its listed as CFL.
A F48T12/VHO is 110W, so the PL-L 55W is comparable in power density per length.

The local Hardees restaurant has some 2 foot HO lamps under their awnings. They were left in the fixtures @EOL for months, but were replaced when the place was remodeled. They are used along with the 8 foot HO lamps to completely fill and back light the area under the awnings.

Apparently 2ft VHO lamps DO exist - at least in black light phoshor (F24T12/BL/VHO 351 NANOMETERS). 71 watts out of only 24 inches, now that is VHO...
They're at Lightbulbdepot.com.
