@LightsoftheWest, will surely keep that in mind! At the moment it seems I have the fixtures selected. (Alexandria - Restored Radial Waves with 1 RUL. Bayville - Black colored Cree Traveyo lights in 2700K) While Alexandria is set in stone, Bayville has more wiggle room so if anything changes I will let you know!

but can say 42F is too warm for graupel.. it really needs to be close to (or below) freezing for that to fall. (and within the cloud there must be a layer where water gets below freezing, but not enough that it freezes...until it encounters a falling partially-formed snowflake, when it does it freezes instantly to that, forming a somewhat-soft white ball). Interesting stuff, & kinda cool to see when it happens.

You no doubt had a coldfront come through that day with with a temperature drop like that.
I'm guessing you had a line of convective storms along the coldfront, and strong enough updraft within them for hail. Not uncommon at all for that to happen(atleast where I'm at). Storm doesn't have to be severe to produce small hail (half-inch or less)

(There's also something called 'ice-pellets' (or 'sleet') which look like tiny hail...but are formed differently than hail, and requires below freezing)

@ Tim - All our sockets are RCBO protected at the consumer unit (breaker panel) rather than at the sockets themselves.

The house I grew up in was built in 1973-74 and only had one GFCI protected outlet on a GFCI circuit breaker under the house in the crawl space.  They must have considered it an "outdoor" outlet, which was a new requirement in 1973 instead of a "crawlspace" outlet which wasn't required until 1990.  The bathroom vanity outlet wasn't a GFCI, as that wasn't required until 1975.  The kitchen counter outlets weren't either, as they weren't required until 1987.

 Here in the U.S. anything in a wet or moist area is SUPPOSED to be GFCI protected My house has NOTHING !    I remember watching my mom use the electric hand mizer in a pot sitting in the sink !
