Main issue with thoriated TIG electrodes is that you have to grind them regularly. Though Th oxide content is relatively minute, still there is a hypothetical risk of inhaling Th containing dust, and thorium being both chemically toxic and slightly radiotoxic.

No one grinds lamp electrodes in the field like welders do, of course, so no compelling reason to degrade them to poorer emitter, IMHO.

Received a NOS Universal 412-L-SLH-TC-P rapid start ballast that I ordered on eBay for a “rejuvenation” project involving a 1992 Lithonia Lighting single-lamp F40T12 strip light with a bad LPF ballast. I had used this fixture as my general F40T12 testing fixture back when I got it originally, but the ballast died after some time, I made the cord way too short as my cordmaking skills just were not very good back then, and I never put a switch on the fixture. I am going to be adding a longer cord with switch to the fixture as well as installing the new HPF Universal ballast.

Hi Lighting‑Gallery members,

I have two glass refractors from the REVO HORIZON MAJOR (see https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-90675)

I’ve had them in my studio for around 25 years, but I’m having a clear-out and was planning to list them on TradeMe (NZ Trade and exchange). Before I do that, I wanted to check whether Lighting‑Gallery members might be interested in making an offer.

They’re marked “Made in Revo England” on the inside rim. Here is a link to the specification; http://www.simoncornwell.com/lighting/manufact/revo/cat/cat1964-1/hm1.htm

Thanks for answering.

Now I know only this specific type of retrofit HPS lamps (penning mixture) are easily recognizable by their color on startup.

Oh yes, I've already made plans to avoid Hyundai and Kia. Reliability is key, and Hyundai and Kia just isn't it.
