Title: Ebay Shipping Issues
Post by: suzukir122 on February 20, 2025, 10:36:33 AM
You guys know that I'm working on a project that involves shelf up lighting with F30T12 and F40T12 fixtures. I recently purchased four F25T8 fixtures
that I'm converting to T12. The first fixture, third fixture and now fourth fixture have all failed to arrive. Through tracking, I've discovered that
the first fixture arrived at the Indianapolis USPS facility on February 7th, and on February 18th, it arrived at the Chicago USPS facility, much farther
away from here. (Dayton Ohio.) There has been no update on the third fixture in tracking since Feb 15th, and the fourth fixture was suppose to arrive
yesterday. The only fixture that has arrived successfully is the second fixture. I've notified the seller of the situation and haven't heard from him,
so I've sent a second message threatening to involve Ebay if he doesn't respond. (My goal is to talk with him so that we can find a solution to this.)
What more can I do? Has this ever happened to any of you?

The USPS is suddenly swamped with processing paperwork due to certain tariff and de minimum related political choices. It wouldn't surprise me that domestic stuff also gets held up by this issue. If i were you, i'd try to find someone who works for USPS customs centres, and ask them about any delays.
Of course, if your order is from a different country - or worse, the box is reused and says 'made in china', it could have been put on the 'To process' stack and take more time.

Over here, Ebay can handle VAT, import fees and fees for handling that paperwork (rather than the individual parcel delivery service, who each set their own fees out of the customer's control, so if you're receiving via PostNL you're paying quite a lot where FedEx is pretty reasonable). But idk if ebay USA already has arranged such things.
Before we had deals with Ebay, Aliexpress & Co for handling the VAT at their side of the deal and *them* paying the dutch state the VAT rather than each invidivual person who orders something, the mail services were also struggling with handling each little package that came from outside the EU market area.

I wouldn't let it worry you too much . The USPS has been having some "issues" lately . Tracking has been all but useless as of late . If possible , go to your local post office and have them look into it . I've been experiancing pretty much the same thing . I just got a package from eBay that showed that it shipped from New England the same day that it arrived !!!!

Just remember , you can't blame the seller for what the shipper is doing .

I've been having trouble with getting a usps claim. The seller is at the point of sending me the replacement part with his money!

USPS damage claims are a joke ! 1st of all , you have to be able to prove what the item is worth (how do you do that with antique streetlight parts ???), 2nd , regardless of what the seller tells you , THEY are the one who have to submit the claim , not the buyer !

Yep got an item shipped through USPS recently. Arrived three days late. Seems like it was stuck at one facility for a few days. Tracking seemed just about accurate for me.

What's weird in my case is that the first fixture made it to the Indianapolis facility, but then somehow got sent to the Chicago facility, much farther
away from Ohio. It appears that the 4th fixture is also in that same facility now as well, and I'm guessing the third fixture will also be sent to that
facility at this point. The 2nd fixture was never sent to those facilities, and for some odd reason it is the only one that has arrived.
I'll give this all at least 9 or 10 more days.

Yeah the facility my item got stuck at was Chicago too. It actually was sent through two of them there, but it left one of them right away and suddenly became stuck in the other at Chicago for about two days I think. Must be a big connecting point or something.

I remember my US eBay international shipping goes through Chicago. My usps item arrived in 5 days from California to Australia :poof: eBay international shipping usually takes about a month.

My item is from Denver Colorado. lol... so it made it to Indiana, which is much closer to Ohio... then it went backward and farther, to Chicago.
I'm not sure how that works, but it seems to be a trend since my fourth fixture is now there too.
Ehh, this won't slow me down though... I'm still gonna keep buying ballasts. My two Thermo-matic HPF magnetic R.S ballasts should be arriving
sometime tomorrow.

I’ve noticed that my items shipped FedEx cannot be held at a location for pickup anymore. Well actually it’s been that way for a year or more now, but I also noticed the same thing has happened with Shop Goodwill. If you try to request hood for pickup from packages from either site, it won’t go through, or it will but it doesn’t “stick” and they deliver it anyway to my house.

I ordered an item off eBay awhile back & never got it. Tracking showed no info other than 'tracking number created' I asked the seller about it & he said he couldn't get any info from the postoffice & was going to re-ship. Still don't have anything.. gonna have to check in with him again.

I just came across this video (https://youtu.be/ef8tNuPFYVA?si=uW0RZHtPMYuBzqmL) that might explain why you haven't seen your stuff yet.

It's very, very likely that the video @icefoglights just linked to, could be why I have not received 3 of my fixtures yet.
Hopefully this all gets sorted out soon.

Update: one of the fixtures is FINALLY out for delivery today. Unfortunately it is not the very first fixture that I bought of the four, which I bought
back on February 2nd, but the first fixture also had an update today, saying that it departed the Chicago facility. We're making progress.
The third fixture, however, still has no update... last update with that fixture was February 15th.

Glad to hear that there's some progress.

Back in November, I ordered a reproduction part for an old Ski-Doo from a seller in Quebec.  I ordered it so it would be delivered during the window when I'd be home for the holidays.  The next morning, Canada Post goes on strike for a month, so it wouldn't even start moving until I was home.  I was back at work when it was finally delivered nearly 2 months later!  I can't really blame the seller though.  The strike wasn't his fault (well, unless he's also a Canadian postal worker that voted to strike than it totally is his fault, but I doubt that).

Strikes... resulting in orders not being delivered until 2 months later... that is very extreme. Hopefully I never have to go through that!
More good news is that the first fixture that I bought has just departed the Cincinnati facility, which means next stop should be the post office
near me. Third fixture has the spotlight now... since there still has not been any updates regarding the fixture since February 15th.
I have a strong feeling that weather has played a significant role in this.

Finally!... update on the third fixture... it finally arrived at the Chicago facility. At this point, the next destination should be Cincinnati,
then where I live, Franklin Ohio. The first fixture just arrived a few minutes ago. Good stuff!
So as of now, three of the four fixtures I've ordered have successfully made it here.

Update: all fixtures have arrived. I now have all fixtures for my downstairs living room, just need the magnetic ballasts, low profile sockets, power
supply wires and the floating shelves, (will have to drill a couple holes into those shelves) and then that's it!
I'm guessing the shipping issue was weather related... as soon as a fixture made it to the Indiana facility, it got sent to Chicago, then all the way
down to Cincinnati Ohio, then to Franklin Ohio, where I live.
