Title: 200w MH?
Post by: wattMaster on August 18, 2018, 01:41:06 PM
Has anybody seen a 200w MH bulb with a medium base? The 175w versions get really got, so a 200 watt one must be the hard limit.

Do 200 watt MH exist ? I have only ever heard of 175 and then 250 watt ones. None in between. I would imagine that a 250 W MH in medium base would get extremely hot.

Yes 200w MH do exist, they're one of the several odd-wattages that Venture Lighting rolled out in the early 2000's. They're pulse start (ANSI code is M136), and yes, they do also exist in medium E26 base... https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/137196/MH-1669F.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwh9_bBRA_EiwApObaOEQl0CenpDswD31oCEKtfMrbC3_3htH4v4nBUjnDWMoDjO6BO8iUtRoCtQMQAvD_BwE

Venture lighting went through a brief period in the late 90's/early 2000's of developing several new pulse start MH wattages including, 135w, 200w, 310w, 320w, 360w, 450w, 575w, 750w, and 960w just to name a few. The ballasts for some of these wattages are no longer in production as Venture is now focusing entirely on LED

My restore has has 200w medium base halides before. I have never purchased any, though.

I knew about 200, 320, and 750w PSMH, but all those other wattages? That's just ridiculous. Especially the 310w. How big of a difference is 10 more watts going to make anyway? Also, they must have made a 300w PSMH at one point because I saw a craigslist listing for some 300w metal halide highbays. I thought it was a typo until I saw the ballast housing label. I should have saved a picture of it.

What do you mean by a medium base.? E27/26.?

Yes, "medium base" is E26/E27, mogul base is E39/E40.

Lumex120, yes they did indeed make a 300w PSMH system too, I just looked it up. There are probably a dozen or so other goofy wattages I didnt mention. I actually have a Venture 310w PSMH ballast, its very large for its wattage and is a HX-HPF ballast, which was Venture's favorite circuit type, I dont have the 310w lamp, but ive tried a 320w lamp on it, and it appears to almost fully run up, but flickers badly...crazy what only a 10w difference makes.

BlueHalide, could you upload a picture of the ballast if you haven't already? I'd really like to see the label. Also, it's really weird that it's HX instead of CWA.
