When did residential grade light switches start appearing? Did residential grade hard snap switches exist?

I think residential grade switches (toggle switches) appeared in the '60s.

Were any snap switches considered "residential grade"?

I don't think so. I've seen Leviton snap switches everywhere. Houses, my school, churches, and warehouses (for a small number of lights).

Here, snap switches are pretty rare. Apart from the ones in my grandparents' house, I don't know of any in use.

To be honest, I don't know of any snap switches in my city still in use. But certain places apparently still have lots as the ReStore I go to have some show up from time to time.
