Title: Bug reports (Started at end of July)
Post by: RCM442 on July 28, 2016, 09:02:00 PM
The other bug reports thread has become very large, so I have made a new one.
With that said, post any bugs you encounter here!

Another Bug: In this photo (http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-49965), AngryHorse commented on it, however, he only signed up recently, while it shows that he commented on 2011, even though he did not exist that long ago.

Angryhorse is a former user of LG that had the username Linear_SLI. The administratots merged the new account with the former account.

I'm getting an error that SMF can't connect to the database. Maybe a DDoS attack?

If it was a DDoS attack the site wouldn't be working at all.
It seems to be working now, what were you trying to access anyway?

The Home page.

It's working now, but I did see an error, sometimes the server can go down for a second and cause that, we should be protected from a DDoS attack so it's not going to be that.

This likely doesn't happen often.

No birthdays, so it's not going to show at the bottom, it's at the top in the navigation bar where it always has been. Not a bug at all.

Another Bug: If you try to view a photo album in Who's Online, it says that there are no photos to display. But if you click the album in the file tree thing, it displays the photos.
Another Bug: Links in album descriptions have weird spacing.

There is a problem with the time of picture comments, as it is shown according to the current forum time, even if I'm online. I except that when I'm online in the site, the times of the picture comments, would be shown according to the setted Time Offset in my profile, so if the Time Offset is setted to the time zone of Israel, so the time of picture comments would be shown according to Israel time.

Hello ive noticed recently that on mobile the picture sections dont always swipe left and right, only sometimes. Im not sure if thats just happening to me, may be my mobile or its a bug. Is anyone else aving this issue? It only seems to be since the home page changes

I also noticed that photos that appear to be members only show up in the index's last comments area, but not in the last comments page.
It confused me because photos appeared to be suddenly invisible, but then showed up again.
This is when you are logged out, but everything is fine when logged in. I saw this happening for Keiron's photos.

The forum and the gallery page probably once a separate domain name.  When it was merged, some of the encoded link could not find the old domain name.  That was never resolved.  Just go to the gallery page when you want to see member's galleries.

Links when coming here from Google don't seem to work properly, for example:

Search Google for 'Philips H2865', the first result is a link to a picture I uploaded. Click the link and you end up not on that picture, but simply on the 'Gear' page overview.

That is the thumbnail page for gear, it's showing that it was at one point on that gallery page at one point, but google doesn't update the search index as fast as things get uploaded here.
Not much can be done about that I don't think.

Oops, fixed that.  I did put in stricter rules, which are still in place.

1.  The title must be five characters or more in length, and contain at least one two-letter (or longer) word.
2.  The description must be ten characters or more in length, and contain at least one three-letter (or longer) word.

There seems to now be a bug that causes some gallery photos to now be upside-down on my iPad, maybe it's because of the new software?

So it turns out that after switching to ImageMagick (http://www.lighting-gallery.net/index.php?topic=5457.0), the EXIF orientation flag was no longer being wiped out after rotating the image.  Most browser ignore the orientation property, so photos would appear as expected anyway.  Mobile Safari is an exception, and as a consequence, the images would be effectively rotated twice.

I've added an argument to ImageMagick's converter to clear out the orientation tag, and updated pictures uploaded within the past week.  The orientation tag certainly is a pain.  It made things easier for camera makers, but harder for everyone else.

That sentence when I had said before is occasionally not open, is now fully open, I am now using mobile phone over GFW and paste, China government, and then how you watch me is useless, I must have made the ballast with aluminum profiteers tell lamps of enthusiasts from around the world (...), don't give face shameless line?

The second picture is for the forum with the different domain name that was originally created before switching over the current domain name.  That is why we have some broken link on some pictures and smiley pictures.

That should be considered a good thing. In this case your government is protecting you from a piece of spyware!

Google Chrome isn't totally considered spyware like this like Windows 10 (Adware), Babylon and uTorrent (Both malware). I think that blocking software and website and internet services by the government is a dictatorial act.
Even if Firefox is much better than Google Chrome, in terms of interface and security (Addons), there are still no reasons to block Google Chrome.

Chrome tracks what you do/go and reports it back to Google, thus it is spyware (although I believe there ways to disable it)
There's a reason I want nothing to do with Win 10 :)
I avoid the torrent things, in part because of their malware (and also because here in the US there is too much legal risk)

If I recall correctly this is why the last bug report got shut down, so before the mods come in a shut it down and hand out warnings, we really should get it back on topic..

No bugs to report today, I booted them out of my fixtures last week with a little help from the garden hose..

That's one of the reasons to have a garden hose :)

Whenever I've picked up old used fixtures that are all dirty/dusty/etc they aren't even allowed in the house or garage until they've gone out to the yard for hose treatment .lol. gotta remove all that dust, dirt, spiderwebs, etc. (ie a good cleaning & de-bugging)

Men of God,

I used to live in China, and currently need to access Chinese websites, such as Chinese bank websites.

Due to the "Great Firewall" (金盾工程) internet access can be intermittent.

Recently, China (金盾工程) has strengthened restriction against VPN access and other work-arounds commonly used. This can possibly cause the issues you are experiencing.

I remember in early 2000's there was not much control of the internet in China, but recently I can not get much done between the USA and China internet.

Lately Iíve noticed the site is becoming very slow indeed. Iím not usually one to complain about things like this but when ever I click on a thumbnail on the gallery or any other buttons it just takes forever to change to that page it took me forever to upload a bunch of photos the other day. Also when you go into the gallery and click on MY Gallery it takes forever to bring up the photos. In fact the site is just slow in general as of late to be honest.

Thanks guys you do a good job

Incidentally, do you or anyone know where the hosting server is physically located..? I get Lansing, Michigan from the IP address, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's actually there. Yesterday I uploaded a single pic and it was in "Last Uploads" but wasn't shown in the main page "Last Additions". It appeared there some 10 minutes later.
Today I commented on a Beta5 picture. The comment appears in "Gallery -> Last Comments" but isn't visible in main page "Last Comments".
The "Last updated albums" strip doesn't appear on the main page.

It isn't browser specific - either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome show the same.

The attached photo is a bit too big and now anything outside of the page is no longer viewable because there is no left/right scroll bar nor is there anything else to make the rest of the page viewable (or at least on my PC i can't see the whole page).
Edit: sorry, my browser was glitched and so the page would not show up properly.

A 'feature'/option on the site that itself should be "turned off". Totally pointless.

I think this might be a bug.
When i post a new photo in the gallery, there is about a 50/50 chance that i will get a notification email telling me that someone left a comment when someone leaves a comment on the post (this is with new posts that have no comments yet).

Quoting a post on mobile (in my case iPhone 8+ mobile safari) hides the quoted content when the post is submitted. Hitting edit shows the quoted text is present in the text box and viewing the post on a computer shows it as well.
That's not a bug. It's supposed to do that on mobile. If you guys want we can turn it back on.

I feel like something is missing from  the Index  (https://www.lighting-gallery.net/index.php), was there a lager space between the top of the logo and where the top of your browser is?
Because I feel like the spot where it says "Hey, F96T12 DD VHO, you have X messages, X are new.
July 07, 2018, 07:51:50 AM" was further from the top of the page

Maybe someone did this to improve space and make the site a little faster

Over the past few days I've been getting a number of these errors here when in the gallery (usually when attempting to post a reply, or uplad an image):

The connection was interrupted

The connection to www.lighting-gallery.net was interrupted while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

(Try Again)

--------------
Doesn't matter how many times I click 'Try Again', the page won't load. Only option is to close FireFox & re open it, then try again (then it'll usually work)
...and its only here. when LG gives that err, I can still go to other sites.

I was trying to fill in missing file information on my fluorescent album. Aswell as updating all the pictures "Base" information from "Bi-Pin" to "G13 (Medium Bi-Pin)" and after finishing all that it gives me this stupid error. Quite annoying.

I don't know if this is a bug, or comments being posted & then deleted soon after but...

Sometimes I'll get those 'Topic reply' and/or 'Someone commented on a picture' emails, and when I click the link to read it, there's been no new posts since I last read it.

I've gotten a few of them just today infact.

I think sometimes it's people deleting comments immediately or soon after posting. Sometimes I've seen a comment just after it's been posted and then a few minutes later it's gone. Why anyone would do this is a mystery, but it definitely happens.

Strange. So it appears when I re-enable smilies it enables the ability to type out multiple lines.

But the massive amount of smilies also pushes the OK button off of the screen.

I don't know why disabling smilies also disables the ability to post multiple lines of text. It's a bit rediculous.

Hopefully Patrick comes on soon.

disabling smilies has also stopped them from working in the gallery, even if you type out the code for them! (the way I've always done it)

Last night, sometimes the smilies would show in all one long line stretching out the screen, and other times they'd show as 3 lines & everything was fine.

Too many emojis and/or emoticons, especially the animated ones, consumes lots of CPU and slowing down the gallery. Is it possible to hide part of them, and use the [more] option to reveal the rest?

I doubt it, dor123.  These animated emoticon are done by .gif file which it doesn't take much of CPU cycles.

I have noticed that they(all of them in general, not the animated ones in particular) deff do slow down the page loading...(once fully loaded the little bit of animation on the few .gif's has zero effect.)

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, if so can't immediately find it.

I have the system set so that when I receive a PM, I get an email. Sometimes the email contains the body of the message, but sometimes it doesn't. It's not a huge problem as if I'm not logged in I'll have to anyway if the message needs a reply, but I'm just curious.

Yeah, it's an issue.  It probably has to do with the spacing or characters in the message, though I'd need to look into it further to see if it's something we can correct ourselves.

Normally that happens when the form did not fully load and was submitted without all of the required fields.  Make sure the prior page actually finished loading, and see if anything looks unusual.  If it keeps up, send us a PM.

There may be problems with the EXIF manager, the image system or the EXIF reading is disabled.

Title: Re: Bug reports (Started at end of July)
Post by: Patrick on June 30, 2020, 08:16:13 PM
We resize images with either dimension above 2465 in order to save on disk space, considering bigger images tend to also be larger in terms of file size.  Unfortunately that also wipes out the EXIF information.  It looks like the Replace File mod is not enforcing the size restriction.  So you have a loophole, but I'd ask that you not use it for that purpose.  To avoid having your photos resized and recompressed, reduce them to 2465 pixels or smaller prior to upload.

Title: Re: Bug reports (Started at end of July)

I'll decrese the maximum resolution from 5000 to 3180, for save disk space too.

By some reason GD 2.X is not compressing the images to 80% jpeg and probably not resizing to 5000 px. What is happening with my GD? And if it is necessary how can I upgrade to ImageMagic?  ???

We do have Image Magick selected for this site.  GD worked fine for the most part and while I don't recall all the details, I know we encountered the rare issue here and there when processing certain files with it, so we switched.  I don't remember there being much if any configuration involved other than the setting itself.

What can I do for my site can compress and resize the images? GD 2.x is not doing this, but it can resize the images for the thumbnails and the intermediate images. That's weird.

That's normal. The feeding software used to intrgrate the CPG comments and last uploads with the SMF forum  board have a bit of latency.

Now there's a probem. Check if your upload is in a private or members only album. Maybe the feeding software doesn't index the pictures in private or members only album.

It is set by the lighting-gallery.net's time zone.  Mine is two hours apart.
