Title: GE discontinues the M400R2, & M400A2
Post by: lightinglover8902 on March 01, 2019, 12:38:09 PM
Well, GE will no longer make the M400R2 and FCO version (used by TXDOT) and the M400A2s as they are now discontinued.

But, GE is still doing their M250s, and M400As (not the A2), but the metal halide options are discontinued.

But the GE M400s are still being made.

It was bound to happen, sadly. The other models are next too... :(

I thought the M-400A2 had been discontinued for a while already. Which is a shame since it's my favorite GE cobrahead.

Why, because of the push for LED.   >:(   I just hate that when they discontinue a HID fixture, just to push for LED!  >:( ::)

They have also discontinued the Power (Powr) Bracket which has been in production since 1962.

Well, these discontinued GEs will be rare now to have.

Yes, they will. I was going to sell my M400 A-2 but now I will keep it. New in the box.

Yeah, the Powr/Bracket was my favorite GE fixture, and they are rare here since they were used for rentals mostly, probably in the 70s or 80s.

They discontinued the P-17/M too which was another favorite for me.

The early power brackets had the astrodome photo control which was mounted inside the fixture under a plastic clear dome. Later they stopped that manufacture and used twist lock receptacles. You can still buy the astrodome pc's on line in many places.

Actually, the M400R2 has been discontinued for quite some time.  2017 if memory serves me correctly.  The M250R2 will be next as many utilities are installing LEDs, and orders for the M250R2 will dwindle more than they already have.  I'm sure GE is keeping them in production as an alternative for municipalities that have not yet switched to LED.  But one day, they too, will be rare.  I got mine still in the box.  I've used it for a little while as a light for my bedroom, but never outside.  Also, Mike of McCann Lighting restored an old M250R1 for me (Fixture and Parts provided by me, Labor by him).  I traded his services for a brand new, hot off the press M250R2 (It had literally been built the week before he received it.)

I admit that I am moving slowly over to the LED Movement.  I HATED LED until my utility started using the LEOTEK Green Cobras.  They put out a Warm White, and when you look down on the street, it looks like a DLX White Mercury Lamp.

I've warmed up to LED - that's not physically possible though.  ;D The LEDs around here are good at least for LED. Here I don't think the utility uses any GE fixtures HPS or otherwise, but maybe for flood lights they do. The DOT was still installing M400 FCO in a new installation last year and also for spot replacement with drop lens.

I thought the M-400A2 Powr/Door had been gone for a couple of years already, around the time the Powr/Bracket and P-17 post top were discontinued.  ???

Well, TXDOT is not putting any HPS fixtures anymore, as they're only putting LEDs in new installations, and HID replacements. Also, I bet CPE is doing the same thing with their streetlights. But only if the customer wants LED. Last time, I saw a new neighborhood (I forgot where), but it had AEL 115 FCOs.

Oh you can warm up to LEDs, but they just arenít as hot to trot as an HID will ever be l:lol:

I too, have warmed up to LED.  The Leotek GCJs and GCMs are awesome!  It takes about 0.05 seconds to warm up, like a very soft power on.  Not too fond of the GE Evolve LEDs though.  Ameren started using LEDs in mid-2017.  Every now and again, one lazy technician will change a lamp instead of doing what he is supposed to and replace HID with LED.  My house used to be lit in an orange glow, but now it looks like a DX Mercury lamp is lighting it up, and anything that looks like Mercury is something I can get behind. Screw the 4-6,000K LEDs, Iíll take the 2,700-3,000k LEDs
