Cold and snow go together though...  ???

Neither Ria or myself are fans of the cold, and much prefer the temperature to be in the 70s. Either when we're inside or the weather outside.  :)

I enjoy the cold weather and I love it when it snows as long as I don't need to drive anywhere.  Where I live, winters aren't too severe and we usually get one small snow per year, usually in January or February.  After such a hot summer, even for South Carolina standards, I'm ready for some cool weather.  Surprisingly, we didn't get any rain or wind from incoming hurricanes this summer or early fall.  I sealed up my windows with Frost King foam and took out my window box A/C to make my room a draft free zone, ready for the cold air  :)  I'm also going to try out a Philips 125 watt BR40 heat lamp to take the chill out of the air in my house.

We rarely have more then 2 inches of snow here, a few days a year. My lights are all ready for the winter, thogh I do not think the CFL`s will ever like the cold!

I can't successfully put it into words how much I hate winter weather, as well as the cold. I highly despise it.
As of now, just 9 more days until I move into my new apartment. My friend/coworker was going to help me move my
bike into my new apartment/garage. (I'd ride my bike, and he would follow with my bike supplies in his Mazda Miata)
That no longer can happen because rain began earlier than expected today, and is followed by cold air, and possible winter weather
on Friday and Saturday.
I have no heated gear, so I can't ride in cold weather. Luckily, for Monday they claim it should be 50 degrees and sunny.
That's the only nice day until rain moves in for Tuesday, followed by more cold air.
Yeahhh... no. Not a fan of winter, at all.

At this time of year we lose the light just after 4 in the afternoon, and we are reluctant to go out when it gets dark.  :(

Thanks to winter, I'm making all kinds of gains. All kinds.

The only problem is, it's not muscle gains. It's fat gains. I'm slower, and much lazier during
winter. Haven't worked out since 4 weeks ago and I can already see my face has gotten a little pudgier.
This isn't the first time this has happened, so, mark my words. When next year rolls around I will be
back physically fit again.
Moving to another apartment definitely isn't helping things right now for me either.

As we're very close to the city centre, all the power feeds here are underground, we don't have overhead power lines to residential property except in rural areas.

Yeah, the fall, more commonly known as just autumn in the UK, is an awesome season  ;D, I used to love walking home from school through all the falling leaves, and the smell of wood burning fires from the houses, with all the street lighting coming on early as a kid ;) , it always reminded me winter was coming!

I'm completely the opposite, I find my most peaceful moments are just before going to sleep or if I wake up during the night. I always have trouble getting back to sleep afterwards, so sometimes I'll go and sit on the sofa for a while and maybe read a chapter of whatever book I'm currently in the middle of. We're right in the city centre, so there's always a certain amount of traffic noise, but it's the most peaceful time of day.

Not really, but it's not as bad as it was before they finally opened the bypass (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberdeen_Western_Peripheral_Route) (which had been in the planning for 15 years or so) in February this year. Before that, pretty much ALL the north/south traffic through the city went down the main road about 100 yards away at the end of our side street  :-\

The rain is coming down
Water rising all round the town
We might even get a flood
Itís enough to boil the blood
So weíll stay warm and dry inside
Thereís no question what to decide

No winter weather on the way for me.  It's going to be almost 70 degrees and rainy this coming Saturday.  So far, it's been a relatively mild January here in SC.  Maybe I'm still used to upstate New York winter weather that I lived through last year.  It's been really rainy this month with more rain in the long term forecast.  I hope we get a nice snow at least once before spring.

I honestly don't understand what's up, but... winter hasn't really been packing a punch here in Ohio.
THANKFULLY. On my birthday back on December 27th, I actually got to take my motorcycle out for a little,
for the last time in 2019. I was thinking around that time, and by now, the dreaded "arctic air" would set in
and make lives miserable for the north east. Warmer weather is apparently on the way for Saturday and Sunday I think... but
the threat of rain destroys both days instantly.

We have a huge rain and wind storm when we went back and fourth to Lin hospital. Part of the streetlighting in Haifa turned on during midday because it was dark, and part of the road being flooded. At Lin, all the traffic lights didn't worked at all and no signal was active. Only after we left Lin hospital, the traffic lights went on with the pedestrian signal displaying red and the traffic signals flashing yellow few times before turning red and than the program began to cycle, than after several mins they all started to blink yellow.
Bus 2 of the Metronit, had to skip most of the stations until Hotzot Hamifratz, because of the floods.

We just got nailed with snow here. I appreciate everyone's understanding that it would be difficult to start sales of my fixture haul in the middle of the Minnesota winter. In the mean time they're on my deck instead of a scrapyard and they'll still be there when we get a break in the weather.

No snow for us here down South yet. Itís really cold here today with a high temperature of only 42F, cold for our standards. The big mass of cold Canadian air has moved in from the northwest and has affected temperatures as far south as Florida.

When it snows in SC, the recipe is usually a blast of northern cold air and a low pressure system moving in from the south from the Gulf of Mexico. When rain moves in from the south and hits the cold air, it usually brings us a decent snowfall. This often happens in January or February so thereís still time to get our annual snow  :)

LOL @ 'really cold' for 42. It was somewhere around that as a high here yesterday, considered it sorta warm (considering its mid January) ... I was outside for awhile in short-sleeves while taking down Christmas lights.

Iíve been to Colorado (Colorado Springs) a few years back for a week, I about turned into a raisin it was so dry. Iím not used to humidity being so low I was drinking water constantly just trying to not get dehydrated. It is a beautiful place though I wouldnít mind coming back to visit instead of work. Here in GA I donít think the humidity drops below 50% very often, though I imagine places in FL can handily top that.

Yep I've heard that if you're not used to the lack of humidity here, it has an effect on you like that!
Sometimes we'll even get single-digit humidity values - basically pure desert-like days in the summer. .lol.

I remember Georgia winters, I'll take 22įand snowing over 36į and raining any day ! The dry winter days were nice , the wet winter days SUCKED ! :D

It's humid where I live most of the time and that humidity makes it feel colder than the actual temperature, and makes it feel damp and chilly inside the house. We have a lot of cold, rainy days where it's as cold as it can possibly be without any freezing precipitation. I agree, I'd take a colder temperature and a pretty snow over a warmer temperature and a cold rain any day!

After living up in New York last year, South Carolina sometimes feels just as cold for different reasons. NY had lower air temperatures and SC has higher humidity and more rain that exaggerates the air temperature. It's been windy this winter too. All the cold rain and constant wind reminds me of what it's like in Scotland and England during the winter. I've heard places like St. Andrews (home of the world's most famous golf courses) gets a lot of wind and rain, but not too much snow.

I can't take high humidity, which is why places like Florida are a no-go for me. Heat is ok if it's dry, I've been in Arizona in 100į+ heat with no problems, but if I'm soaking wet as well, no thanks..!

We finally got a little dusting of snow yesterday morning  :D The weather forecast called for all rain and 40 as a high, so I was shocked when I saw big, wet snowflakes falling outside.   It snowed for about an hour, and a little bit stuck. Hereís my windshield before I drove off yesterday. Snow in my region is notoriously difficult to forecast.

This same system is bringing terrible flooding and multiple tornados in upstate SC and in many parts of NC. I hope youíre flight gets back on schedule! Looks like this massive storm system will be out of Atlanta sooner that it will for me. Please stay safe  :)

Itís been a really strange winter in the South. This is the second severe weather outbreak since January and itís looking the rest of February is going to be warmer than average and rainy. Iím not expecting any snow or ice at this point in late winter. This warm winter could be a sign of many more severe outbreaks in the spring. Could be a rough season coming up...

@CEB1993, Summer can also be brutal regarding severe weather outbreaks. I still have that feeling that some historic
storms could take place within the spring or summer. Heck, maybe even during the fall.
Here in Ohio, we had a good amount of snow fall and stick to the ground this morning. All of which has disappeared as if
it never even happened, this afternoon and evening.

We got somewhere around 6-7" earlier this week...
And another foot today...
I couldn't even get up my street. After getting stuck, I ended up having go back out of the neighborhood, and come back in a different entrance, so I could come down my street (oooh the joys of living on a hill, & the county snowplow truck doesn't come around...)

There's a few more chances of snow in the forecast for next week too.
Tomorrow's supposed to be sunny & a high near 50 though .lol. typical CO weather warm one day, freezing the next.

Ah, but if you live at the TOP of the hill, you won't get snowed in..! My dad once bought a house at the top of a hill for precisely that reason. Also it had the added benefit that if he couldn't get his car started, he had a nice long ramp to roll down to help it get going  :D

I personally love a nice warm or even hot dry day (dry - as in low humidity - day being the key part!)
Not really much interest in the beach, sure its a place to walk along, but I wouldn't go in the water or lay in the sand or anything...I'd rather find a mountain trail where there's few people around. .lol.

@xmaslightguy, I would lay in the sand, but that's pretty much it. Although I'm athletic, I can't swim. At all.
Sight seeing, people watching and relaxing is about all I can do at the beach.

Yesterday (or maybe the day before yesterday) we got a good amount of sleet. It covered the roads a bit. Almost like
small hail, but definitely/obviously not hail. (Hail is associated with thunderstorms) Accumulating snow followed afterwards.
Slightly warmer temps are in the forecast for later on sometime next week. Hopefully the end of winter is nearing...?

It was a cold and gray day here with low clouds and some drizzle. One of my friends and fellow lighting collector and I were outside for a sports car driving event today, and it was the first one since last September where we didn't have significant rain. I wish I had brought my beanie cap and gloves as it was colder than I expected. 42 degrees and humid is quite chilly. It's been rainy and humid most of the winter here with much more rain on the way throughout the rest of the month. We have been having weather more similar to London, UK or Seattle, WA with constant low clouds, cool temperatures, and persistent rain.

I'm not saying we have to have snow days off from school, but I also love to see light dustings of snow. At this point, though, I'm getting very tired of "winter" (actually just frigid days with sun, clouds, or rain). I just want spring and warm weather already.

Not natural weather, but earlier this morning there was a huge fire at a metal scrapping place and car junkyard decently far away from here. However, the fumes from it carried all over the Twin Cities area and so throughout the whole day it smelled like burning plastic and wires everywhere you went. It's been almost 24 hours since it happened and it still is noticeable but it has improved a bit.

Oh wow! We had the same thing two weeks ago, a month's worth of rain in one day. As expected, we had some nasty flooding and a lot of impassible roads. Must be some type of jet stream action that's bringing all this heavy rain to the eastern USA and the British isles. Hope y'all stay safe  :)

We had a little snow today. Started out as rain this morning and then the temperature dropped to about 35F in the afternoon and we had some wet snow. Nothing really stuck, but it was still pretty to watch. The temperature's going to drop to a cold 25F tonight, which will cause some black ice tomorrow. Even with 4WD, ice can make any car lose control. That often happens where I live, with temps. dropping well below freezing after some mixed wintery precipitation and causing an icy, dangerous mess the next day.

Last three days nothing but sunny weather, but max 7įC with heavy winds from the north which makes feeling even colder. Now in quarantine times, at least being outside in the garden is better than going down in the house with nice weather.

But... Fortunately: Spring comes!

Motorcycle riding weather today. I, for some odd reason, did not feel like being on the motorcycle today, and
the day is done. Today was nice though. Sunny with absolutely no clouds. 60 degrees.
Tomorrow is apparently going to be around 67, but more clouds. I will be out and about on the bike.
Thunderstorms are forecasted for both Saturday and Sunday but threat for severe weather was not said. I guess
it's too early to tell.

It's always that with Fahrenheit / Celsius convertion, I am not very good in this - No problem with everything else. OK, I got now:

7įC = 44.6įF
15.5įC = 60įF
19.4įC = 67įF

GOOD, learned something :)

Btw, you remind me on ordering a filter kit for my bike!

@Proteus, nice lol once you get that filter kit, hit up my off topic thread "YOUR Engine Sounds." Make a video!

I rarely ever understand degrees Celsius, just like I rarely ever understand KMH. (vs MPH)
Spring is here though so now it's time for me to get serious in terms of severe weather. I still have that gut feeling
that since we've seen serious tornadic thunderstorms take place late winter, this spring could be historic
regarding severe storms.

So, you have already seen my videos in the other post :) But as I finished my job to revive my bike, I can do that again.

Today it's really a nice day and I have to go outside to continue garden work. We have around 1.2 acres of everything you could imagine around our house, and this gives a lot to do to cut all this green stuff out there :)

And sorry, I don't wanted to force you to understand this įC or KMH thing, never! I just wanted to say that I understand almost all Imperial things, excepting the temperature LOL... Really don't know why. But therefore, I practice: Right now, I estimate something around 60įF outside!

They're forecasting 70 degrees for Saturday, still the threat of severe weather was not said. There is the chance
of thundershowers tomorrow and thunderstorms on Saturday.
... am I the only one hoping for severe weather?

It's going to be AMAZING weather here in SC this week  8) I'm taking a few vacation days and planning on swimming, fishing, and kayaking for the first time in a while. This great weather really puts me in a good mood  :) We're going to have highs of about 77 to 83 degrees and partly cloudy through the weekend. The dogwood trees, magnolia trees, and azaleas are in full bloom and pollen is starting to appear. As much as I like winter and seeing the snow, it always makes me happy to enjoy some warmer, sunny weather too.

@CEB1993, I'm glad the weather is doing good over there because us in Ohio... well... no.
Great weather today, and got some highway bike riding in which was so... freaking... awesome.
But of course, since Ohio is Ohio, that all came to an end. Clouds developed and Virga begin to
take place. Eventually that rain reached the ground. Showers look to be developing to the west of
us right now, and more rain/storms in the forecast this weekend.

LOL our forecast tells that after today with around 65įF winter is coming back next week... Should I be happy with that or what?!

We had haze yesterday, and the sun look sharp and clear at the evening:

@Dor123, hahaha... that's a crazy amount of haze. You know it's crazy when the sun almost looks like the moon, and
you can look at the sun directly with ease.
Over here we got hit with storms this weekend but it was left over storms from when they had severe weather out west
in Stlouis, Illinois, etc. Those storms reached us and weakened significantly. Spring is making a come back though,
most days. Not today though. Only 47 degrees.

We have now  khamsin  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khamsin): An eastern hot and dry sandy wind.

This morning I awoke to overcast skies. There was also a light drizzle of rain on roof, but just for a moment. Since there nowhere to go, it made a good morning to sleep in.  :cat:

Apparently lightning struck a pole in Laconia today 2 wires were down when we drove by, power was out for a few hours! Police were directing traffic away from the scene and since the lights were out.

We have a giant heat wave with 36*C (96.8*F) and 10% humidity in Haifa, and all of Haifa smells smoke because of fires outside:

Similar situation as much of California, as there are many large wildfires throughout the state. No smoke near me right now, but there was yesterday.

It's concerning how there's a lot of fires going on throughout parts of the world. No severe weather here,
but the smoke from fires out west are currently making our skies here in Ohio appear cloudy.

Back in September, that happened here.
