Do some places you see more abandoned fixtures? « on: March 08, 2025, 07:29:07 AM » Author: Cole D.
I’ve noticed in my area, there seem to be more abandoned area light fixtures, than other areas.

In the next street from me, there are 4 abandoned area lights. One is an American Electric 165 HPS bracket and also an old American Electric mercury NEMA with a BT lamp that’s hanging out the bottom. Another house has a NEMA that’s missing its lamp, photocell and optic unit.

And just this week, I noticed a house next to those, has a NEMA in the backyard in a similar condition.

On my street there are two abandoned NEMA heads as well. One is complete with optic, lamp and photocell, but the wires were cut. The other has its lamp but no photocell, and it lost its optic assembly in the hurricane.

On some rural highways, I tend to see abandoned NEMA heads where old houses were demolished, or also where farms used to be, or barns where equipment is stored and I guess the power was cut off.

I guess it comes to where there are more or less rental lights installed, gives more chance of them to be abandoned, but it does seem the next street to mine has more than I’d see on ogre streets.

My area has a whole bunch of abandoned and not in use yardblasters and resi-grade NEMAs in various states of disrepair for some reason. Along with neglected (dayburning). Norelco/Philips, ITT/AE/Electripak, McGraw-Edison/Handyman/Regent in all their various styles are the ones I've seen so far.

Yeah now that I think about the residential fixtures, I know of some here.

My neighbor across the street has a Regent MV yardblaster on pole, I guess it failed at some point, so she had power company install an HPS rental NEMA and abandoned the old light. It’s still up, although the NEMA was later replaced by Evluma Areamax.

There’s another house down the street where I’ve seen either a yardblaster or NEMA, not sure which. It has a coated ED lamp and no lens. Pretty sure it’s unused though.

I also have a neighbor down street that has an HPS NEMA head on their own pole, and they then disconnected that and put up two HPS floods instead. So that NEMA is technically abandoned too once they use the two floods instead.
