Hi all. So as a follow-up to my last post I ended up getting a 35W SOX ballast for my 26W SOX-e lamp. The ballast in question is a cel CEV7400 ballast that's rated at 35W. From the last thread I made it seemed like I would be able to run my 26W SOX-e from it. Also attaching a pic of it here. I just wanna know if anyone can say if it'll work properly or if it'll destroy the SOX lamp. Looking forward to your replies.

I've got one of these. They will run a 35W lamp reasonably well, but a tad underpowered in my opinion. It won't run a 26W lamp though, sorry but I've tried You won't damage the lamp just trying it, but it won't run up fully. 35W ballasts do turn up on eBay, this one will run 55W lamps as well. Not the cheapest, though. However quality is always worth paying for, and Parmar ballasts are good.

Ahh damn. That's a shame. Any idea why it doesn't run it well? Edit: because I would've assumed if anything it would've overrun it

Not really, I just don't think SOX lamps like electronic ballasts much. Nor do I, if I'm honest, although they're good for some applications; Philips CosmoWhite CMH lamps are designed around them, for example. But I don't think you can beat a good old magnetic lump, I'm old fashioned like that I can recommend that Parmar one though, it ideally needs a PFC capacitor to go with it, but you can get away without it. It has a built in ignitor though, which is useful.

Hmmmm I'll see what I can do. I can likely get a proper ballast in my area but to give my wallet a bit of time to heal and for me to sort out my dutch bank account I'll only do that a bit later. Regardless when it arrives I'll likely attempt running the lamp off of it for posterities sake seeing as it won't immediately kill it. Then I could also see. As for the one you posted a built-in ignitor coil seems great and I can't see a PFC cap being too hard to get. I'll see if I can go to a junkyard and maybe there are some AC motors where I could salvage the right one from

Will do will do. If it runs well I *might* even consider keeping it in place since I like to live dangerously don't mind being a bit out of spec, especially since it's gonna have a much lower duty cycle than street lamps. As for where I'm from I'm originally South-African, I'll definitely miss the mountains and nature

hehehe. If you do end up going make sure you get a local you know to show you around. Crime there is one of the major downsides and you do need a local so as to not wander into dangerous areas.
